FIC: the Western Shore

Apr 27, 2012 06:40

Hmmmmmm. Saltines and Coca-cola. Dinner of champions.

I wrote a sequel to my XMFC Viking AU, because everyone needs more Vikings. Like a lot more Vikings...this story ended up being twice as long.

It's called, The Western Shore

and it is the sequel to this story (which is, fair warning, rather hard-core non-con)

Beloved of Ravens

It's definitely not a waste of time. Writing 95 pages of fic about it might be a waste of time, but the MOVIE is all good fun. And c'mon, check the scene in my icon! Boys! Guns! You know you approve!

The internet will still be here when you get back. And c'mon, it's not like you haven't read most of it already. :)

Cool! I've been waiting for this. I still have Beloved of Ravens loaded on my eReader. I'll begin re-reading that at lunch today and then I'll download The Western Shore when I get home tonight. Can't wait!

I do hope you enjoy it. it's a long story but it moves pretty fast. It's also funnier if you're familiar with comics canon...my geekitude alllllll on display.

But now after writing 95 pages...aaaaaagh, my hands! (Only you understand)

So my Swedish is kinda rusty and Erik doesn't exactly speak modern Swedish to begin with, but in chapter 1, does he by any chance say "fuck me in the ear"? :D

Well spotted! It's Norwegian and yeah, that's what he says. Back in the day (srsly 18 years ago, wow) I had a Norwegian boyfriend and if something completely flummoxed him that's what he'd say.

i got really lucky with my beta, aurvandil, who is a young scholar of old Norse. So we managed to insert a little, for fun. But mostly it's modern Norwegian.

I have a Norwegian friend and it's funny how I actually understand a lot of what she posts on LJ and FB in her native. And I understood most of the bits in your fic as well, even though Norwegian and Swedish are technically different dialects... Linguistics are weird!

Also, btw, I just finished the rest of the sequel last night and I just loved it <3

Aw, thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. My husband can still stumble along in Swedish (he's 2nd generation American) and he says that the only ones who are completely unintelligible to him are Danes. You post in English soooo beautifully, I sometimes forget you are Finnish (whoa, there's a tough language). Wait, I'm making assumptions, you are Finnish, correct?
