Stop romanticizing the past, please

Please, please stop it. Listen...the stuff people ate in the past? Often times killed them. They ate very poorly, very high calorie diets. When they could get food. Otherwise they starved to death and died. There's nothing 'wholesome' about living in a log cabin or detaching from society and becoming a recluse and living off of huckleberries and ( Read more... )

My grandfather was born on top of a mountain, on the kitchen table of a log cabin. He and his 12 siblings grew up there, with no electricity, running water, heat beyond a fireplace and a wood burning stove. They owned no automobiles until the older boys went to work and bought one, but his dad never learned to drive. They grew food, raised hogs and turkeys and grew potatoes, and harvested chestnuts to use for pig food and to sell to other farmers. Great grandad had a wagon and a team of horses, and he carried stuff for others, he was a wagoner ( ... )
