Saw Nichel Nichols speak once, about how she at one point was thinking of leaving ST because of the "chick in a skirt" issue, but then she was at a party, and someone said to her "Oh, I know someone who'd LOVE to meet you!" and dragged her over to meet Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Who promptly talked Nichel OUT of leaving ST, because he pointed out how important it was to have a BLACK WOMAN as part of the trusted command structure of the crew, on TV, where a generation of young black girls would see her, being just as capable and ass-kicking as the white men.....
