Ice or coldpacks are your friend. When Thom broke some toes during the spring, we re-found the ace bandage with the pocket that holds a heat or coldpack. That helped reduce the swelling greatly.

He was in a lot of pain, though.

Drink your milk! :-) And take calcium pills. That is one lesson I learned from my grandmother. She has taken calcium pills since she was in her twenties (lactose intolerance runs in my family). And guess who has never had a bone density problem? And when she fell and broke her leg 6 years ago, the doctors were amazed at how strong her bones were! So, yes, I am a good girl and take my calcium pills every day. :-)
