"It's witchcraft, that's what it is," the Doctor, or rather, Aurelius, stated as he studied the shadows cast by the partial solar eclipse with a worried look on his face. Martha bit back a laugh as she thought of the irony. She hoped that the Doctor remembered this when he reverted back to being himself in two months. There was something strangely hilarious about hearing superstitious drivel come out of his mouth.
"I'm sure it is," she muttered, knowing that's what he wanted to hear. Gathering the tray with his breakfast dishes, she left him to his muttering and made her way down to the kitchen. She was rounding a corner whens she nearly ran into somebody. She almost fell before the other person caught her.
"Oh! Sorry about that, Marta," Merlin apologized, grabbing her elbow to steady her. "I didn't see you there."
"It's fine, Merlin," she smiled at him, trying to ignore how wrong her assumed name sounded to her ears. "Nothing's broken. Just watch out next time."
"I was a little distracted by the eclipse," he explained, walking with her down the hallway.
"It is rather captivating," Martha replied. "What do you think of it?"
"Why, haven't you heard Uther and Aurelius talk at all?" Merlin asked in a completely serious voice. "It's witchcraft." Both of them held that serious look for about two seconds before they burst out laughing.
"I'll talk to you later, Merlin," Martha said between laughs. "Hopefully by that time, the evil sorcerers will have given us back the sun."
"We can only hope," Merlin answered, his face once again straight, but with a glint of humor in his eyes. Walking away, Martha shook her head at the ridiculousness of this entire situation. If anybody told her that she would be hiding from aliens in Camelot with the Doctor as a religious fanatic, she would have told them they were crazy. There were somethings, she guessed, that really had to be experienced.
