10. Why Worry? (1923)
Harold Lloyd is definitely one of my favorite actors of all time. In this film Harold plays a hypochondriac, rich businessman who sails to the tropics for his 'health.' Instead of the peace and seclusion he is seeking, he finds himself in the middle of a revolution. My favorite scene in this film is when Harold loses his shoes and tries to find another pair. He pulls off the shoes of every unconscious soldier in the vicinity until he finds a pair that fits him
9. Don Juan (1926)
The great John Barrymore plays the great lover Don Juan in this thrilling tale. This was the first feature film with a Vitaphone soundtrack (therefore being the first film with a completely synchronized soundtrack). This movie is really astounding and very enjoyable.
8. The Navigator (1924)
Buster Keaton! What more can I say? In this film, Buster Keaton finds himself trapped on an empty passenger ship with a pretty lady. There are several very funny scenes in this movie like when Buster is trying to cook breakfast but he has no idea how to go about it, also when he has to go underwater to fix the ship. It kills me every time when he puts that 'MEN AT WORK' sign up.
7. The Mark of Zorro (1920)
Douglas Fairbanks as Zorro. What more could one want? The stunts in this movie are amazing especially considering that Douglas Fairbanks did most of them himself. This movie is very entertaining, exciting, and just very fun to watch. Plus, Douglas Fairbanks looks great in those tight pants.
6. The White Sister (1923)
A great movie with an ending that broke my heart. Lillian Gish is the star of this movie and while she does a great job, Ronald Colman always grabs my attention. Because he's so handsome. And at the end of the movie I always feel so sorry for him. But seriously, he did a really great job and so did Lillian and I love this movie.
5. The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
This has to be one of the scariest movies I've seen. The first time I saw this movie I jumped out of my skin when the phantom was first unmasked. Lon Chaney gives a very terrifying performance in this masterpiece of horror.
4. The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg (1927)
I really love this film. It is just so wonderful, exuberant, and heartbreaking. It has such a wonderful spirit to it. Everyone plays their part well and...it's just so great! I can't even find words to describe it, that's how great it is.
3. Orphans of the Storm (1921)
Here's another Lillian Gish movie on this list of mine. In this movie she is paired with her sister Dorothy Gish. Orphans of the Storm was the first silent movie I ever saw and I am glad that it was because it's a really superb movie. Of course with D.W. Griffith directing, it was bound to be a great movie of epic proportions.
2. Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928)
Another movie on my list that stars the hilarious Buster Keaton. In this film, Keaton plays the son of a cantankerous riverboat captain who comes to join his father's crew. This movie is really hilarious. There are so many wonderful scenes. I absolutely love the scene in the jail when Buster is trying to give his father the loaf of bread with the tools in it.
1. Girl Shy (1924)
I think the thing that makes this my favorite silent film is the romance in it. It is a very funny movie and I like the comedy in it, but there is such a sweetness to the romantic scenes and it makes me love it so much. My favorite scene is when the female lead's dog jumps off the train as it begans to take off, and Harold Lloyd takes his cane and he snatches up the dog with the end of it.
