10. Professional Sweetheart
I couldn't find a picture from the movie, so here's a picture of some sheet music. This movie stars Ginger Rogers as a radio singer who is publicized as the ideal of American womanhood. But she is anything but sweet and innocent. When she starts to rebel, a "professional sweetheart" from among her fans is brought in to try and please her, and they end up falling in love. This movie is sparkling and breezy pre-code fun!
9. Rafter Romance
The second Ginger Rogers movie on my list, Rafter Romance is a nice, light-hearted comedy about a man and a woman who share an apartment. One has the apartment during the day, and one at night. Of course, love ensues. A very enjoyable little film.
8. Dancing Lady
A very cute little musical starring Clark Gable, and Joan Crawford. Oh yeah, it was also the official film debut of some guy named Fred Astaire. Anyways, Clark Gable is very handsome, as always, and Joan Crawford sparkles. It's wonderful to see these stars so young and energetic; they are all great to watch.
7. 42nd Street
The movie that inspired Dancing Lady and many other musicals. It invented the cliches of musicals and has been imitated endlessly. 42nd Street. It's been a long while since I've seen this movie and I'm having trouble remembering it well, but I know that I like it! So, there!
6. Duck Soup
The Marx Brothers at their zaniest and funniest! Except Zeppo. He's not funny. Although this is not my favorite Marx Brothers film, I still enjoy it immensely. How could you not enjoy the Marx Brothers? There are many hilarious scenes in this film, such as Harpo and Chico's interaction with the street vendor, and the famous mirror scene.
5. Flying Down to Rio
The first film that paired Fred Astaire with Ginger Rogers! Yay! Whoo! Awesome! They do the Carioca! We all love them! Even though Fred & Ginger aren't the stars of the film, they are the most memorable part. Everyone loved them so much that they were paired up in nine more films.
4. Little Women
This might be my favorite film version of Little Women. Actually I think it's tied with the 1949 version. Hmm.... Well, it's really good anyways. I think Katherine Hepburn is perfect as Jo March. It's very beautifully adapted from the book, and it's very entertaining as well.
3. Dinner at Eight
This is such a great film, with such a wonderful cast! John Barrymore, Lionel Barrymore, Jean Harlow, Marie Dressler, and Billie Burke all star in this classic film! This amazing comedy/drama is a very wonderful and witty film.
2. Hold Your Man
Jean Harlow & Clark Gable! What more can one want? Harlow and Gable had such great chemistry together which is why this film is great. The script is quite clever and entertaining.
1. King Kong
A very innovative film for it's time, King Kong has to be one of the greatest films of all time. Filled with action, adventure, romance, and horror, this film has something for everyone. This film is movie history and it's very entertaining and fun to watch.
