Whee!

Yesterday was the Gem & Mineral show over at UTA, and I came away with several good deals. ^^ The silent auction lent several pounds of rough rock to practice cutting for a dollar, including a nifty piece of petrified wood. I also got a little blown-glass hermit crab and a tiny iolite carving of a seal. Jeremy got me a carved wooden otter, a ( Read more... )

I think you should check the weather reports before you go anywhere near Lousiana.

The eye of the category 5 hurricane in the gulf hits land in about 4-5 hours from now, which means fairly early in the A.M. It's headed straight for New Orleans, which isn't expected to survive a direct hit (the city's storm preparations are only rated for category 3 hurricanes). Worst case scenario, Lake Ponchartrain becomes Lake New Orleans for six months from residual standing water as the city will be under 15-20 feet of water (at least -- New Orleans is how far below sea level again?). Many areas of the state have been issued mandatory evacuation notices, all the way up to where my family lives. Unless your brother lives in far, far, far north Louisiana I would put those plans on hold...and if he's on the coast, I might call him tomorrow and make sure he's not floating down the Mississippi.

It's great when an assumingly large shelter ( SUPERdome ) floods and gets the roof ripped off. New Orleans didn't even receive a direct hit (R.I.P. Pascagoula) and they're about to be knee deep in sewage. Here in South Texas gas prices are expected to go up $1 after Wednesday... cuz, you know, it's not like Texas doesn't have oil OR refineries in mass.

Oh and to think.. New Orleans doesn't have underground cemeteries. Yay for floating tombs!

He's far north, but we may have to postpone. First tsunamis, now hurricanes. The world is ending, yo.

Hello, btw, darling. Don't stay at the hotel that's flooded to the 7th story..!

Though I'm sure you're bright enough to avoid flying head-first into a national disaster area. The man on TV keeps saying "armageddon" ... yet there is no Aerosmith theme music or heroic suicide missions to save this planet..!!!

Sorry. *SQUISH* I go now.
