Not a rant, but rather some sad news.
As we all know, cancer sucks. It killed Suzuoki Hirotaka in 2006, took Kawakami Tomoko, one of my favorite female seiyuu, a few months ago, and most recently Takiguchi Junpei on August 29th.
But you may be wondering: Why am I bringing this up here?
One year ago today, on October 23rd, 2010, lung cancer took Vexen's Japanese voice actor, Nozawa Nachi from us. Nozawa first voiced Vexen in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix, then reprised that role for re: Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days. He also voiced Vexen's Other, Even, in Birth By Sleep.
In addition to bringing Vexen to life, he voiced another mad scientist familiar to Square-Enix fans: Professor Hojo of Final Fantasy VII. His most famous role, perhaps, was Space Adventure Cobra's titular character. Plus, whenever you needed someone to dub a Bruce Willis character into Japanese, he was the man you went to.
We will never forget you, Mr. Nozawa. You or your creepy-ass laugh.
