Sep 11, 2011 06:37

My Dad's been having computer issues lately and since I've always been able to fix whatever computer I have, he's had, Mom's had, or any of my friends or relatives have had, he asked me to write him up a How To Make This Shit Work When You're A Damn Engineer and STILL CAN'T DO IT Guide. Can I pick your brain on something? Do you have any experience on the best way to update your drivers? I admit I haven't done so before. Google has some guides that I'm definitely going to read but I was wondering if you've done the driver update before.

What knd of computer do u have? It's so brand specific I'd rather answer specifically. There is an awesome program I use a lot called iobit toolbox that gas like 20 different programs in one for cleaning up, optimizing, and updating your computer and it will update ur drivers as well.

http://download.cnet.com/IObit-Toolbox/3000-2094_4-75221761.html

Cnet is trustworthy and the program is too. I'm watching the lsu game but if u want I'll make a tutorial on all the different processes it does when I get home this evening.

Anyway I used that to update my drivers thus last time but I've also done it manually as well so let me know what systembrand u have and ill find u the best write up.

First and foremost though, figure out how to restore ur system before u do it so u can restore it if it goes wonky. I talk about that up there in the write up.

Just bought a refurbed HP (because, I love my Macbook, but it's old and obviously won't feed my PC Sims 2 addiction) and remembered this post from way back when. Looking forward to setting up the new unit with all the right stuff from the get-go, instead of after I find a problem. Also, I did not realize that AVG was the Satan Lite of virus protection. Never heard of Avast, but I'll definitely check it out.

Thanks for this post! :)
