The Triple Blind by
lovethesnark “Cos.”
“I’ve got it covered.”
“No, listen to me.”
“It’s fine Sarah, I’ve got it covered,” she says, pulling up her pantyhose and frowning at the run in them. Delphine needs to invest in clippers. ”I can play this game.”
“No you can’t.”
“Yes I can.”
“No, Cos, you can’t, you have no idea what you’re getting yourself into,” Sarah says, and Cosima rolls her eyes. Oh, world weary Sarah, knows everything in life Sarah, so practiced in the ways of the world Sarah. ”You don’t want to do this.”
“Oh but I do,” she says, grabbing her purse and sneaking out of the apartment, Dephine still splayed out naked on the couch, hair all tousled. this flushed feeling isn’t going anywhere any time soon and Sarah’s not going to ruin this for her. ”Her hands, Sarah… they do things. Skinny nimble fingers, so cautious and uncertain-”
“Lalalala,” Sarah says, like a petulant five year old. ”No no, don’t need details.”
Cosima rolls her eyes again. ”You’re not going to be thatone are you?”
“What one?”
“The homophobic clone.”
A derisive snort. ”Hi, have you met Fe?”
“So then get your panties out of a twist,” Cosima says, finally raising her voice out of the whisper as she enters the elevator. ”You’re fucking your monitor too.”
“That’s different.”
“You’re right, because you did it to distract him, I’m doing to it to turn a double blind into a triple blind, and now she’s the rat,” Cosima says, jabbing at the elevator keys with her pen, chewing on her lip. Silky soft skin, blond curly hair so softer under her fingers as she winds it around them and then twists and pulls. ”Or, well, I’m still the rat, but i’m a self aware rat, and I’m going to make her think I’m going for the cheese and then oops, took a left turn there, gosh darned rat, guess I’ll have to try harder. Make her desperate.”
Desperate breaths, please, Cosima, please, please, faster, I can’t, we shouldn’t, don’t stop, faster, oh god your tongue, faster, fingers, harder, I’m almost there…
“Desperate people make mistakes, I promise i’ll have the answers to the quiz fast enough to make your head spin. She was like putty in my hands.”
“And there’s no secret crush you’re harboring, no feelings you’re burying… If I remember correctly you liked her at first.”
“And I do still,” Cosima says, stepping out into the light of day, a brisk 6am walk of no shame at all. She grins up into the sun. ”And I like frogs, but that didn’t stop me from dissecting one in eight grade.”
“I still don’t think you should be doing this.”
Cosima laughs. ”Well I am, so deal, kay? I’m doing my part to help us, and I’m having, oh trust me, tons of fun doing it.”
“That’s twisted, Cos. Really. No, really, really twisted.”
“Takes ones to know one,” she says, and hangs up the phone, adjusting the strap on her backpack again over her shoulder and making a beeline to the nearest coffee shop around.
The thing is, she’s full of shit and she knows it.
She’s totally in over her head and she knows it.
But that’s half the fun, isn’t it?
