Yeah, I was kind of thinking the distant future thing abut Jack and his new man was giving RTD wayyy too much credit. He likely just through that in to be an asshole. Whatever! Matt and Steven will ROCK and Torchwood will suck. Sounds like justice to me.
In total agreement. I was iffy about Matt Smith, since I ADORE David Tennant and LOVE Ten, but getting a little taste for him at the end of the episode, and then seeing some pretty sweet scenes in the preview for the new series, I'm not as broken up about Ten leaving as I thought I'd be. Didn't help that he died in a pretty shit way. Practically an incident with a toaster. I was more upset about Jack/Alonso than I was about Ten dying.
Actually, you know, there really is still hope that they won't give him a new bf in Torchwood though. People have had photos from the filming of this episode since before Children of Earth aired. So. They very possibly could have filmed this long before the fandom blow-up and thus have already had time to change their minds.
Yeah, I try to keep reminding myself of that. But of course, there IS no backlash because RTD is made of awesome and win and sunshine and puppies and NO ONE would dare disagree with him and his genius. /sarcasm
Or Alonzo heard that Jack was a child-killing scumbag (something the Doctor never bothered to ask about) and is plotting to seduce him and then kill him (not knowing he's immortal). Rad new villain in the making! Maybe I'll cheer for the baddies now. Down with Torchwood!
Mm the fact that the ending of the scene wasn't concrete (like say Jack taking Alonso's hand and dragging him off...*vomit*) is the one reason that I'm not as upset as I could be (still pretty damned pissed but...). It lets my denial kick in that Jack wasn't really that interested and couldn't go through with anything because he's still working on how to bring Ianto back and doesn't want a lame clone of him. *nods*
In Voyage of the Damned the Titanic goes to Earth around Xmas 2007, that is true, but the people on board the ship are from another planet, most certainly from the future (because of the technology and all). Therefore it could be that Jack is many centuries in the future in the bar.
The scene is actually quite disrespectful to Alonso's character -- from a brave and loyal soldier in 'Voyage of the Damned' he's turned into a cheap one-night stand for Jack. I suppose that's what RTD means by 'character developement'.
See, I'd like to believe they're from the future but there just isn't any canon evidence to support it. The tech is advanced *for Earth*, yes, but just because it's high tech and alien doesn't necessarily mean it has to be futuristic. The only thing they specify was that the ship came from the planet Sto, not that they came from the future. I think the Doctor would have mentioned it if the ship had time travel capabilities too, since there really aren't a whole lot of species capable of time travel in the Who-niverse
( ... )
Aww thank you! I'm flattered that my reviews are a topic of discussion! I just do them to make myself feel better, I'm glad they can make someone ELSE feel better too *blush*
I don't mind at all, friend away! The more the merrier! <3

I am still in shock with the Jalonzo thing.
Part of my mind say Jack just talk with Alonzo for just one night and realize his affection and love is for Ianto.
So Jack leave the ship and find a way to save Ianto.
(No Torchwood without Ianto Jones)
