The funeral drags on, and he knows Sawada Tsunayoshi would have cried fat tears if he had seen the budget and the drain on their resources the stupid funeral cost them. The man they wept for would have preferred it simpler. Just the close family, Hibari knows.

He watches them almost impassively, a yawn or two breaking through the blank face he has on for the occasion every two minutes. He knows he has done his bit by turning up for the funeral where all the stupid herbivores wept for a man long gone. But he can’t make himself leave just yet.

He can feel the Rain Guardian’s piercing eyes watch his every move, and he loathes being on display. He hates that it is Sawada Tsunayoshi who is lying in the coffin and not Gokudera Hayato or even Yamamoto Takeshi himself. Hates the fact that he has lost the only one he called his own while the blasted guardians still have their pillars intact.

Not that Sawada had ever been his pillar, but he had been his. And the fact that something that had belonged to him, something he had so selfishly guarded had been stolen from him so stupidly, so cruelly, makes him hate even more.

He watches the weeping consigliere of the Vongola clutch at the Rain Guardian, and his eyes narrow. He wants to separate them. Wants to steal one of their lives away so they would feel what he feels. And although he tries to ignore it as best as he can, the sight of the two Guardians responsible for their recently deceased boss’s death gnaws at him.

When he looks back at the Rain Guardian he knows Yamamoto has figured out where his thoughts are leading him. And the way he draws the Storm Guardian into his possessive hold makes a reluctant smirk break out on his face. He will bite the Storm Guardian to death later. But only after biting the Rain to paralysis; he would make the man watch while he killed the thing he held most precious in front of him. And maybe that would teach both of them a lesson not to be careless with one of his possessions.

“Kyouya.”

The Cavallone Tenth’s voice spurs him into action; he stands and he doesn’t look back as he leaves the hall. He’s suffered claustrophobia for the dead; he thinks he has done enough. He will leave now and bite the whole of Millefiore to death for daring to violate his household, soon.

Later when he is mellow with all the sake he has consumed, he thinks about Sawada Tsunayoshi. He feels the sorrow like a physical blow to his gut that he can’t shake off. He also feels anger at the stupidity of the man.

The next time, he promises himself - and there would be a next time, he will beat the concept of forever into the thick skull. He will make sure Sawada knows that once he enters Hibari Kyouya’s den, there was no leaving. No exit route for anyone unless Hibari provided them with one. Usually with a well placed bullet to the heart or a tonfa to the head.

He will make sure Sawada knows what he is getting himself into, as to not have a repeat performance of what the stupid herbivores were dubbing the biggest tragedy of all time. He will not let the man misunderstand the concept of forever, and if he has to use his tonfas to drive in the point, then so be it.

With that thought, he drains the last of his sake in one gulp.
