In yet another part of my life, I've been working on my great terraforming project -- rehabilitating the clay hillside of our backyard into something more stable and productive.

The landlord's parents spent about two years building the terraces (according to them), but didn't seem to have any great plan in mind or even a layout idea of what plants

Mmm, glad to hear the garden's on progress! I'm finally getting the bug to garden myself but have nowhere to do it in this apartment. :P

Yes, chocolate mint. The stems are reddish, the leaves are a darker green than usual spearmint, and the leaves are smooth-edged rather than spearmint's fuzzy toothy edge. And it smells just like a peppermint patty when I water the patch. :D
