...I have been going through one of my "offline" periods, where updating a journal (here, on paper, on my iPhone weight watching program), or even being online for chatting has been low on my priority and attention scales....

Sounds like the right sort of work for you to be in now; as for cooking.. I don't think I'd stop cooking if I had a non-culinary career spring up either. I like being in the kitchen far too much.

Steady work has a way of regularizing sleep. It's good like that.

Oh, absolutely... the other day, after letting it age with a dry rub for 2 days, I made "roast beast" (slow cooked in ale for 6 hours) with "black & tan rice", salad and veggies.

Previous week I wanted to try something I spotted in a "Cooking Light" issue and invited friends over to share in the experiment - Morrocan Shepherd's Pie: cubed leg of lamb seasoned with cumin, cardamom and cinnamon; onions, red bell pepper & peas under a savory sweet-potato lid, with a simple Morrocan salad of cucumber, tomato and mint in a honey-lemon dressing.

One of my housemates saw the salad and thought "Pico!" so was really surprised at the radically different flavor profile.
