I have an appointment with the orthopedist tomorrow afternoon (amazing!) where we'll go over the MRI and look at what options I have.

Based on what I've read so far (I know how to filter internet, thank you) I may have to deal with an unstable knee for the rest of my life....   in spite of anterior cruciate ligament tear being the most common form ( Read more... )

How did it go? Is there a treatment plan that's doable? Is that a meaningful question right now?

It's not really a meaningful question yet. The doctor prodded my knee area, carefully did some pulling on my calf, and said "Yep, it's unstable."

The good news is he doesn't think I've torn the ACL, just stretched it. So for the next several weeks I'm to keep a compression bandage around the knee area as well as use the brace I picked up that has metal hinges to force stability (unlike the lightweight stuff that depends on neoprene and plastic stays to stabilize).
