Seen in a fanfic. No idea if it's accurate.

Mizuage: a Japanese word that roughly translates as 'losing one's virginity in a ceremonial fashion.'

I've run into it before -- but only in reference to courtesans and geisha.

But I suppose it could have other, more evil, connotations. ^_^

Now, I wonder why you would think...evil?

=)

Well there's the old feudal tradition of the Droit Du Signuer (not sure on the spelling) where the feudal lord had the right to claim the virginity or bed of any woman who owed him fealty.

There's also the fact that the mizuage for courtesans and some geisha was basically an auction.

The concept has some interesting potential.

That's true. But it's not really 'losing' one's virginity, it's more like 'virginity'...

Bah, i'm confusing myself. Anyways, it's like a ceremony where a girl's virginity is sold off to the highest bidder. Or, rather, the act itself if called the mizuage.

...Sorry if I made things more well, confused. ;_;
