Since I'm going to have to summarize the whole weekend in one post, I'm using lj-cuts. Click the links to read about our trip to AB2004!!!
So, we left at about 8 am Friday morning and met up with everyone out in Presentation driveway, proceeded to drive down to Boston with practically no problems, and got to the con! After checking in our luggage - a considerable amount, since there were over 15 of us, - we left to go park our cars... Unfortunately Kylah and the others didn't realize that I hadn't gotten to my car yet, and they left! O_o So Sara and I drove around for awhile before finally parking down near Chinatown and walking across the common back to the hotel. Kylah found me there, and she and I and
Ruliverse walked all the way back, got my car, and parked it under the commons, where it was supposed to be. ^_^
Anyways, after that whole adventure, we discovered that room check-ins didn't start until 3pm. I got my registration squared away in record time, then headed off to the dealer's room with Kylah and
Ruliverse. (Oh yeah, I was cross-playing as Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist most of the day Saturday. Two girls recognized me as soon as I got out of my car! Hehe!) We stood outside in line for about a half an hour before we got in. I picked up the first manga (japanese) of FMA, as well as an Ed keychain and a Trigun yaoi doujinshi. XD After that we ran back to the hotel so Kylah and I could register for the masquerade, then I headed down to the video game dungeon for awhile and stood in line for DDRExtreme, which was fun, but not worth the hour something wait to play. There were some incredible players down there! Then we had to go stand in another (granted, longer - MUCH longer) line to check in for our rooms. Something like an hour and half later we had our rooms, and I had to run to get to the AMV101 panel, on which I was a panelist... again! ^_^
I knew a lot more about what everyone was talking about this time, seeing as how I've been using premiere for about a year or so, but
Ashyukun and
DOKool seemed to have things pretty well under control, so I answered a few things and mostly sat back and let them field questions. People seemed to like my Key To Fantasy vid, regardless of the fact that it used final fantasy footage, and all the other vids were great too. After the panel I changed into my Sephiroth costume and spent some time wandering the halls and getting glomped by fangirls, most of which ran after me shouting "Sephy!!!!" (Which was what I expected, so it didn't come as too much of a shock. The fact that I was the only Sephiroth there, however, DID come as a shock.) The AMV contest was great, Tom's "YMCA" vid got just the reaction I was expecting it to, and mine seemed to go over pretty well, despite the fact that another Gawl video was in the finals. Who'd have thought? O_o
After the contest I hung out at the dance for a while, then went to the AMV Iron Chef, which was basically an excuse for some of the other editors to make fun of
DOKool and some other poor sap. It was pretty cool to watch, and the "it doesn't matter how much RAM you have, it matters how you use it" discussions were hilarious, but the guy sitting next to me was SO annoying I had to leave. I mean, REALLY annoying, in that stupid "I-think-I'm-the-best" way. Headed back up to the room, curled up in the corner, and crashed. ^_^
So Saturday was certainly a bigger day! Got up at 8 am so I could be ready for my craftsmanship judging on my costume at 10 am, and spent a good ten minutes at least trying to get my hair to stand up like Vash's does. It's not easy, let me tell you... Anyway, went and got that over with, then called Travis to see where he was. Wound up he was lost in Boston, but he found his way to the hotel, and I also found the rest of the girls in the skit (You all rocked!!! XD). Trav and I headed up to the room where I changed back into Ed's costume, since there was supposedly an FMA photo shoot at noon, and we hung around in the hallway for ahwile. A lot of people asked us for our picture, which was strange considering the characters have no relationship... Oh well. It was fun to be Ed. I found the other FMA peoples at around half past noon and we had a really fun photo shoot! There were 3 Eds (counting myself,) a Winry, and A ROY!!! XD We got pictures glomping the Roy. ^_^ We also started planning THE Otakon skit, but that's a story for another time and place. ~_^
Went to check out the cosplay.com clubhouse, and got some cool pictures with the Kingdom Hearts Cloud guy that was walkin' around. His costume rocked too. Although it was weird, because I'm so short and he was pretty tall, so Cloud was towering over Sephiroth... O_o The "So You Want to Start An Anime Club" panel was a huge success, MUCH larger than
DOKool and I expected it to be. Thankfully we had another guy on the panel who had experience with High School clubs, though, because most of the people there were in high school! ^_^ It was a lot of fun, regardless. Anyway, after that we ran down the road and got some pizza (which
Ruliverse was kind enough to spot us for), and ate super fast before masquerade check-in! Saw
Kiryuu1 staffing, and saw the l33t Vash who showed us all up. ~_~ Damn him for having such a kickass costume!!! *cries* Anyways, we were seated above the main events in the balcony, went over the skit several times, then trav and I decided to have some fun with the fangirls. Since he was cosplaying Wolfwood and I was cross-playing Vash, we kissed. Now, I'm not sure if all the cheering was for us, or because the other Vash dude happened to come out on the balcony at the same time, but a lot of people came up to us afterwards and thanked us. ^_^ It was all in good fun, and the fanboys can't complain too much since I'm a girl :-P Anyways, the skit went very well, I think, although half of it was a blur because I was so nervous!!! I almost tripped running off the stage, but it works for Vash since he's so clumsy anyway. When we got back up onto the balcony I was almost hyperventilating from the heat, had to open the front of the jacket so I could breathe. Once we got back to the other side it was better! ^^ They announced the AMV winners (Tom the Fish ruling over us all, as usual) and we had a Trigun congo line going to YMCA while they played the winners, as well as a kickass dance going on up there for awhile before the masquerade winners were announced. Vash won lots, which was cool, but I do wish some of the other people had won... Shuichi was really good, and so were the pokemon/bowser people in the huge stuffed costumes. Neither of them got anything. *shrugs* Oh well... We had a little Trigun photoshoot outside the main events hall for awhile, then Travis and I went to the dance (I with a collar borrowed from
renocicilia and he holding the leash... VashxWolfwood is funny. ^^) We didn't stay too long, as not much was really going on, then went back to the room where we fell asleep watching FMA.
Sunday was spent mostly walking around, getting pics taken, and checking out some stuff I hadn't had time for before. Went back to the dealers room and got a beautiful foil poster of the State Alchemists from FMA (
rebazi lent me the money to buy the Ed/Al one, so I've got both... have to pay her back though ~_^) then attended the "Learning Japanese Through Anime Music" panel, checked out the karaoke room, watched the second episode of Pretear, went to the "Behind the AMVs" panel and talked to PatrickD and
Ashyukun (gave Patrick a hug, for having to deal with all of us,) then we left early, around 2 pm. Oh, and I got my picture taken my the www.fanview.com guy as Ed, on Sunday morning.
clericdran took a wrong turn and got a little lost, but he found his way back on route and we all made it back with practically no problems! ^_^ So overall, excellent con for its second year, and it proves to be even better next year!!!
I used one whole camera, and half of two others, so I should be getting the pics developed soon! XD Yay!
