1) What motivated you to write Josh & Elana's story? Where'd you get the idea for it?
This is rather convoluted, but I actually got the idea to write "Remember When It Rained" because of a conversation I had with my friend Jared (yes, the same as Jared in the stories) late one night. We were walking in the rain after midnight, talking about how God was working in our lives at the moment and waxing philosophical on other topics before I left him at his dorm. On the way back to my own dorm, the rain just started pouring and I couldn't help but sing "Remember When It Rained" to myself. So, thinking about the song lyrics and then thinking about the conversation Jared and I had just had, I started thinking about the song in a different context. Maybe it wasn't just a love song. What if it was about a man, thinking he was all alone, called out to God?
Well, I dismissed that idea, but it got me really thinking about the song and, since I knew Groban had written it, I started thinking about the story behind his inspiration. And there are lots of Mary Sue fanfics out there, but I wanted to write something different. Sure, Josh and Elena end up happily ever after, but they work hard for it. And I didn't want Elena to be perfect either, like most Mary Sues. She's stubborn and hot-tempered and she sticks her foot in her mouth. She lets her self-destructive demons get the better of her and she has the same insecurities as every other woman.
Wow...that turned out to be a very long answer! By the way, I have a whole other series of rambling about Elena and Dom if you ever want to know.
2) What websites do you visit on a daily basis?
Mainly I visit Hotmail, LiveJournal and Facebook the most during the day. I can't help it. I'm addicted to Flair. But I also check my MySpace page pretty frequently as well as TV.com and IMDB.
3) Do you think you'd make a good American Idol judge?
I think so. I love music and I am a pretty brutally honest person. I'd probably fall somwhere between Simon and Randy when it came to giving criticism. I'm as good at giving criticism as I am at getting it.
4) What is one piece of modern technology (Other than your computer) that you absolutely cannot live without?
My cell phone. I don't think I'm ever more than 20 feet away from it. I'm constantly sending and receiving text messages. Plus, I love making ringtones for it that I know no one else will ever have. I think most of my ringtones are Groban, World Without Sundays, Monty Python and several movie quotes.
5) Muppets or Fraggle Rock?
Fraggle Rock, definitely. I always loved the doozers. Oh, great! Now I have the theme song stuck in my head...
and now:
1. leave me a comment saying, 'interview me'.
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. update your LJ with the answers to the questions. (You must do this, even if it's filtered for my eyes only!)
4. include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. when others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
I had a suspicion confirmed by Jared this morning. He and Sarah are having a baby! Yea!!!!! I am so excited for them. I had a rather hilarious conversation about Jared over the whole thing too. Apparently they thought she might be pregnant back in November, but the pregnancy test was negative. So basically she's two and half months along and they were practically oblivious. One of the first things Jared says to me is "For the record, just so you'll know in the future, Equate pregnancy tests suck!" I nearly laughed until I cried.
It was great getting to talk to him today. He and I were SO close during our first few semesters at C of O but when he and Sarah got together we sort of slipped apart. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love and adore Sarah. But Jared and I have always just clicked in this weird, unfathomable way. While I understand that people grow up and grow apart, it was still really hard on me. The guy is like the brother I never had. But we've started calling each other every once in awhile and we talk to each other on Facebook pretty regularly so I am thrilled to have him back. It's like the void has been filled again.
I can't wait to for them to find out what they are having because I am dying to start buying baby stuff. I'm also coming up with ideas for something special, but I haven't decided on anything yet. Gah! I'm so excited!!
I should probably get off of here now. I've been cleaning all day except for the two hours I spent taking my mom to the dentist and I'm exhausted. Also, I have my interview with Staffmark at 11 in the morning. I've got my fingers crossed. I really hope I can get work soon.
