Character Info
Character Name: Kidagakash 'Kida' Nedakh
Character’s Age: about 8,500 - 8,800 years old (physically, she appears between 20 - 25 years old)
Fandom: Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Timeline: After the events of the movie when Atlantis is restorted to it's former glory.

Appearance:
Kida has long, shaggy white hair that looks like it's been cut with a knife. It actually wouldn't be surprising at all if it had been. It's haphazardly layered and chunks of it are inches longer than others, which is odd compared to most Atlanteans as their hair is either ornately piled on their heads or cut straight. The longest it reaches is to the curve of her rear.
Her skin is dark, just like that of her people. The light blue eyes, thick lips and dark thick brows are also shared features. Something specific to her father and Kida is their large ears.
And of course, there's her crystal necklace. This is something that NEVER leaves Kida for any reason. It is what has kept her alive all these years. It's how she communicates with her ancestors, and she can use it to heal small flesh wounds and many other things (I will downplay this).

However, she does have a few distinguishing marks that set her apart: for one, a tattoo just below her left eye. It takes the form of two curved lines, one smaller line above a slightly larger one and a small circle of ink next to them. This is something that only a few Atlanteans have, and there seems to be a hierarchy among the tattoos themselves. Only the king's personal bodyguards, Kida's hunting troop, and the King and Princess themselves actually have tattoos.
Her jewelry is another thing that proclaims her status. Kida is the only Atlantean seen to wear gold. It's nothing ornate or crazy--just a thick gold square that hangs from her right ear, a thick gold band on her upper left arm and two gold bangles on her right ankle.
Kida is rather tall for a woman, standing about a few inches shorter than Milo (5'10"). Her body is evidence of her life as a hunter and protector of her lost city. She is very lean and muscular, though her hips and thighs still retain femininity.

Her typical day-to-day clothing consists of a sarong tied over what I can only describe as her skivvies.
The sarong is tight around her backside and thighs, while the extra feet of fabric are tied about her pelvis and allowed to hang between her legs. This type of fashion seems to be much more popular with the Atlantian men than the women - who we see wearing dresses and long skirts. She wraps fabric of a corresponding blue around her breasts and it comes off as a tube top of sorts. The fabric folds in many places, securing it.

Her hunting gear is the same as her 'casual' clothing, but with added touches.
Traditional Atlantean armor has been out of use for decades, and Kida, along with the other men in her hunting troop, have adapted. They all sport wrist bands on the arm they primarily use. (Kida is a righty.) Her band has stiff blue reeds, fur, or feathers of some kind woven into the band; they reach up to her elbow.
On her opposite arm, she possesses armor. Three thick plates are tied to her shoulder. They seem to have an innate flexibility to them that is vital -- something to do with the shifting. It allows for coverage all around the shoulder and the scapula of her left arm.
Further down on that arm is a gauntlet of sorts. Again, thick armor. Single plate. This time it has spikes jutting out from the surface that curve towards the wearer.

The masks, however, are something all their own. They take up about the entire torso and head area on the wearer, and then some above their head, perhaps to confuse animals or enemies to the wearer's actual height and therefore make fatal blows more difficult?
The way they are carved is entirely up to the owner. The creepiness factor is something they all have in common though.

Kida's mask is a large disjointed jaw with thick fangs curling to the side to accent the fierce gaping jaws. Flared nostrils act as eye-holes for Kida, and the mask has a long bridge of a nose that connects to a monobrow of epic proportions. These highlight two very very scary eyes that stare into your soul. Something notable about Kida's mask that really sets it apart is the gold accents at the top in front of the fringe. It acts as a 'crown' of sorts, and it definitely announces her royal status among the hunting party. And the fringe - oh my god - the fringe - it's everywhere. It literally covers the hunter's entire body, leaving only the arms and legs visible.

Oh and - extra creepiness for the mask - the crystals the Atlanteans' wear glow a lot, and the gaps in the mouths and eyes are filled with this eerie light blue glow that hides all signs of a body underneath them.

extranote: Kida's armor is much much much much much lighter than any of the others. A little strange but I'll...not go into that.

History:
this app, is already so long

Personality:
Kida is, at her roots, a hunter. She was raised as such, fighting for her people's survival and for her own in a dying city. Serving as its protector for so long and killing any intruders to Atlantis on her father's orders has made her....wary of strangers, almost suspicious. However, her childish curiosity and thirst to learn conflicts with that. (And actually saves the lives of our heroes in the movie!) Her father even comments that 'a thousand years ago you would have slain them on sight', to which Kida retorts with 'a thousand years ago the streets were lit'.
It's obvious Kida has changed from the stone cold hunter she used to be, according to her father. She is extremely aware of the well-being of her people and the slow descent into darkness her world was taking. Over the years, Kida became more invested in using whatever means she could find to somehow save her world. Even if that meant allowing outsiders to live.
In the film's travel montage we see several glimpses of the hunting party throughout the entire sequence. They'd been following Milo and the main cast nearly the entire way to Atlantis and studying them. Kida wanted to learn their intentions and what they were like before slaying them, which she could have done at any point.

But after following them for so long, approaching camp only when they were certain no one would be aware of their presence, only to flee at the slightest sound, Kida began to see them as people instead of outsiders threatening her world, sympathizing with them instead of staying focused to her father's orders. She spares them out of the humanity she found in
them. And Kida perhaps feels more than a little guilty about the lives she had previously taken. Who among the dead could have been a friend if promised life? Who could have had insight to the missing chapters in their history? These questions pushed Kida to abduct speak with the only one who displayed a knowledge of Atlantis.

She pursues everything in her life with a focus and tenacity that is honestly scary. She has a stubborn mentality to go along with her fierce physical capabilities. When Kida starts something, she follows it through and finishes it; her promises aren't broken for anything.

Kida is a bit of a good-natured bully, in the sense that what Kida wants, Kida gets, one way or another. She disregards others' warnings and uncertainty in favor of her own personal goals. She also cares little for the idea of personal space or the above world notion of not taking people's personal belongings. Kida is very touchy feely. She prefers having physical contact with someone when she is speaking with them (in a friendly manner that is), and she will often grab fist fulls of clothing or pull someone along with her, without much concern for their own comfort.

When she gets excited she tends to babble, and often times her mouth runs away with her and she may say something insulting but true. Modern society and its taboo against telling people the brutal truth to their face goes over her head. She sees nothing wrong with mentioning to someone that they're fat or they have a large forehead and a diminished physique.
Despite all this, she is still a Princess. She knows how to be a lady and how to be proper in her own culture, even if it can get undermined by her undying curiosity for things not of her world. Which is probably what enticed her to Milo so much. He knew of her people, but was from a different world. The curiosity in her may have gotten the best of her, but she earned a life-long friend and partner.

Kida is strong willed, but not foolish. She knows where to fight and where to talk. Very akin to the native style, she is constantly barefoot, and is most comfortable in the wilderness. Such is shown as she takes Milo on a tour around the city, climbing the sky-high ruins. She's also very friendly, as seen with the entire city of people. They all know and welcome her, with more familiarity than one would give for someone who was just a princess to them.
She's invested in her people; she isn't some detached monarch who thinks only of themselves. Her people come first, always.

Powers/Abilities:
To say Kida is a skilled warrior is putting it mildly - she is very deadly. Over a thousand years of training and experience will do that to a person. She is skilled with many weapons: bows and arrows, clubs, daggers, swords... Name it, she's probably used it or a cousin to it. She knows more than enough about how to wield an Atlantean spear. They are based off of Inuit spears and I'll do my best to describe it:

The actual spearhead is large and thick. The material it is made of could be anyone's guess, but I suspect some fossilized bone. It hooks viciously to allow some serious damage done; about a foot down the length of the spear is another hook. It's shorter and smaller by far and looks to be used for extra....pointy-ness.
The weapon is several feet taller than Kida herself and there is a great round stone or weight of some kind at the opposite end of the spear head on the pole. This can be used as a club or a base for balance. We see the hunters use the spears as pole vaults to get over rocky terrain much more quickly. The material of the pole is very flexible, yet thin.

Kida also carries smaller, handheld weapons with her on a daily basis. We see her produce a knife out of nowhere once Rourke has been revealed and orders his men to try to take Kida as a hostage. It takes about three grown men to subdue her, but not before she disables two and nearly kills another before kneeing him in the balls and being taken care of herself.

Needless to say, Kida can kick ass. And she can kick ass hard.

Personally, Kida possesses no superpowers of any kind. However, after ages of training her reflexes and aim to deadly accuracy, her abilities are near superhuman.

Her crystal is the only real supernatural element on her person. And it's a bit of a mystery, especially to the audience, so I will try and cover as much as I know and supply as many theories as I can from over watching this movie a thousand times:

1) The crystal is sentient.
2) When it is in danger it acts only to protect itself and the Atlantian royalty.
- also when it needs to take drastic measures to protect itself it will select a host from the royal family to concentrate its essence in, either absorbing them entirely or molding to the hosts' form to act out its will in physical shape.
- the crystal can be dangerous to the host, either killing them immediately as a sacrifice for its power or consuming them entirely.
3) It is the life source of all of Atlantis, including its people. Without it the city would be nothing but ruins and broken pottery.

The individual crystals are nowhere near as powerful as the mother crystal, but they each hold a fraction of the power from the original and are all connected. One crystal can heal flesh wounds such as cuts, scars, bruises. It cannot heal internal injuries like broken bones, fractures, dislocations or internal bleeding. Only the wearer of the crystal can use it to heal. It takes a bit of focus and willingness to heal another person, but it's not impossible. The larger the wound the more strain there is on the crystal-wearer.

The late King of Atlantis, or Emperor if you're feeling nit-picky, commented that 'if she [Kida] remains bonded to the crystal she could be lost to it forever.'
I am going to take a little bit of liberty here with that phrase and say that being attached to the crystal for that amount of time and NOT being taken into it left Kida with some....slightly odd side effects.

Every so often she can hear the whispers of the kings of old, thin and quiet as a breeze. It's nothing she can make out, but she knows she is connected to them in more ways than she could imagine after being bonded to the crystal.
Limitations:
Being on the surface and so far away from the crystal severely weakens Kida's ties with it. She cannot hear the king's of her past whispering in her ear. Healing someone other than herself takes an extreme amount of concentration, even for smaller gashes and bruises. It's as if every effort has been amplified.

Though the glow from the crystal is still as powerful, yet gentle as it has been since she was born.

Kida will not age, or show signs of physical age. The crystal stays constant in that arena.
HOWEVER, if the crystal is removed from her person. She will become very weak, and deathly ill. In fact, she'll seem like she's going through withdrawl. Innnteresting.

Log/Third Person Sample:
The first time Kida kissed him, he nearly fell over. Maybe it was because he was squatting as he inspected a newly discovered carving depicting a very interesting point in her people's history and the force of her lips crashing against his was powerful enough to offset his balance. Or maybe it was because it came from completely out of nowhere. All he'd been doing was yammering on about the impeccable quality of the text and what this meant for scholars all over the city and future generations.

Kida had fallen hard for Milo's intelligence, passion and awkward handsomeness. When he failed to react in the way she desired, she was not disheartened, but amused, because she knew well that he was not brushing her off. He really was just too humble and too focused on his - their work - work to notice, which was one of the many things that attracted her to him. Not that she didn't think there was a possibility of rejection. She just knew it hadn't come yet.

So she tried harder. She'd arrange for them to meet alone, inviting him to dinner in the queen's chambers, at first using the excuse that she wanted to talk about the painful pace the advancement of education in Atlantis, something she needed his input on. When all she got was professional enthusiasm and advice, she stopped adding the "to discuss developments in the lower levels" to the question "Would you like to have dinner tonight?" Four times, they'd done so without the premise of an...academic need, and she'd outright refused to talk about the city with him.

She found it endearing when he looked at her in concern and asked whether she didn't want to talk about it because she was afraid it wasn't going well and kindly told her that it would all work out and her people would soon be brought back to the glory the once reveled in. Yes, she found it endearing. And highly frustrating. Yes, Milo, you are exactly right. I have brought you here, alone, for the tenth time wearing the only remotely elegant robes I have because I am seeking encouragement in regards to my empire. If you were any denser, you'd be a stone.

It was the day after the tenth 'date' that she gave up and resolved to tell him straight up how she felt. Maybe she had to say it in Latin for him to catch on. That would be fun. She snickered at the thought of serenading him in a language that was supposedly as dead as her own while Milo was rambling on about the texts they'd discovered, and he looked up at her in confusion briefly. She played it off as cough, so all he did was briefly touch her back in concern before continuing on with his giddy analysis of the described events. As she watched him looking fondly down at the piece of stone, smiling as he spoke, it became too much for her. Maybe she wouldn't use the Latin speech idea, but she would certainly let him know what her intentions were in way that he couldn't skirt around by hiding under by sitting the role of oblivious history geek. She all but pounced on him.

His eyes widened in shock, though she didn't notice as she had closed hers and began kissing him hungrily as soon as she was sure that she'd hit her target. He steadied himself by placing one hand on the ground, and was further saved from falling over backwards by her hands, grabbing the back of his head and forcefully pulling him back towards her. He remained too puzzled to respond for a few moments, but just as Kida was about to get really embarrassed and start wondering if maybe he hadn't been oblivious to her affection but purposely ignoring it, his lips began to move against hers tentatively and he brought the hand that wasn't being used to keep him balanced up to her face gently. After another moment, he stopped balancing on his toes and sunk to his knees, pulling her closer.

When they finally pulled apart, Kida grinned widely and said, "You really cannot make things easy for me, can you?"

Milo blinked and looked almost hurt. "Oh. I'm sorry. Was I…was it…um?"

Kida looked puzzled and then laughed. "No! I just meant…well, you may be a genius when it comes to study and observation and many other things, but you seem to be missing the part of your brain that knows anything about women."

Milo smiled at her sheepishly. "Does that mean you're really not getting nervous about...well... everything?"

"No. The renovations are going fine, Milo," she said, rolling her eyes. She couldn't help but think 'And now everything else is too,' as she pulled him in for another kiss.

Journal Entry/First Person Sample:

[It has probably taken hours to do this, but Kida is nothing if not stubborn and the sharp line of her collarbone and a thick lower lip against a stark background of unfocused white appear on the screen. But, giving credit where credit is due this isn't that bad for someone who has no concept of what a cellphone is. Let alone video chatting.
When she speaks her voice is thickly accented with an untraceable lilt, only defined as 'exotic'. Her English is quite good though.]

Hello? Can ...you hear me in there? Is there anyone, or anything listening?

[Muffled taps echo thickly against the speaker and it becomes apparent that Kida is under the impression people are in the cellphone. She soon gives up and heaves a frustrated sigh, as much as she would like to toss away this lump of plastic it was the first device she'd ever seen. The least she could do is put up with it till she discovered it's purpose.

Sucking it up; she tries again:]

I am a stranger to this place and know little of it.

[Kida mumbles this next phrase though it is in a ....odd language.]

...gim dot dangun retagos... kwam doyinekik.
["... and what is this strange box... i don't understand."]

If you are listening perhaps you could explain this device to me. It is as foreign to me as these shores.

[She becomes lost in thought there, what little of her lips that are visible mark a distinctive smile. Kida has only faint memories of the sun, of what the sound of waves crashing on calm shores is like. Instead of the violent, distant crash of waterfalls and the hiss of steam curling from lava below. The cries of creatures.

Everything was...dimmed here. It was nice....so she thought.]

gamos legap es shomot mar. gim yugeb moak.
["the waves are beautiful though. and new to me."]

My name is Kidagakash Nedkah....

[She must have recalled something that amused her, an event perhaps? For she chuckles before adding:]

Kida is much easier to remember.

[As quickly as she laughed her voice, again in this bizarre language, turned to sorrowful tones. Filled with concern and longing.]

kag khop luden.
["i must leave this place."]

[The feed shorts out there. Low battery?]
