I have Jennifer Teague's name on my Google Alerts. I have ever since she first disappeared. I didn't know her but I've felt close to the case, if that makes sense, ever since I first heard about it way back in September. Her picture seemed really familiar to me, too. I often wonder if maybe I crossed paths with her while I was working in Barrhaven, because it really was this weird sense of, "I know her from somewhere..." when I first saw her picture. Anyway, I've been keeping up with it intensely ever since, partly because of that weird feeling of connection, and partly because I'm a chick who sometimes walks alone in the dark. Scary stuff.
Hey! I didn't know that they released a sketch (good to know, I'll look it up on google) And I think I had said that it could be someone she knew, but I think it was to asuage my fears as well as yours. I work in Barrhaven now and I don't want it to be true that there is one guy out there...choosing vulnerable girls at random and sexually motivated. But I can't change facts. I REALLY hope they get this guy!!
I think a lot of us defaulted to "it was someone she knew" because as I understand it, it usually is someone the victim knows. There's a difference though, between speculation (i.e. "It was probably someone she knew, don't worry") and just being an asshole (i.e. "She had to have known them, you have nothing to worry about.").
One specific friend of mine was really condescending about the whole thing, acting like I was being ridiculous in worrying about it, acting like he had already solved the whole thing in his head or something. Oh, how smart he seems now...
