For lunch with the Beebes!

Feb 07, 2007 16:49

After lunch with the Beebe's today I realized how much this campus is going to miss him if he leaves.

There is a lot of gossip floating around campus do to peeping newspapers but President Beebe is gracious.  Today he informed us of what is really going down with his possible leave (something personal that was leaked out by the gossipy press) and ( Read more... )

i have to agree with Lita and you dollface. AMEN. I get really annoyed with people who support just to go against the grain. I thought it so respectful of Beebe to send out the email to the students. I LOVE HIM. I am going to be so sad when he leaves. I was considering sending him an encouragment card. I cannot even begin to imagine the place that he's in right now....ohhh how i could go on and on...

And I think on both sides people are just trying to make a splash. I just don't see a lot of respect...on both sides. I do see a lot of bad sources...on both sides.

there is indeed a lack of respect. I didnt mean to imply that it only one side. Both sides are just trying to be heard. It's a hard situation.

You're right about the media. And while you may be right that some people just want to go against the institution, some people just disagree. They're not just going against the grain, instead they really believe something. That's all. And I think that's ok.

Love you Wen :)

yeah, and I'm glad some people really do believe something and are actually concerned about both j. nemecek and president beebe.

But I honestly think that there are a number of people who just want to jump into the SAU gossip and voice their opinion but don't really know what's going on (on both sides...). I guess this was just my rant and rave against uninformed opinions.

...and I really do like the beebes...:)

I would agree with you about people just wanting to jump all down each other's throats... But I guess I would have to say that I have a biased opinion about who is being the most violent.

At the same time, I'm not sure what all it means to be "uninformed." Even after reading Beebe's email, a person would still be uninformed about SAU's position. Not to mention, that Beebe's personal position is not necessarily the same as what was decided by the board that runs this place. Either way, the email and the little bit of a statement that was given, is enough to have an opinion.

You are right though, it is a shame that these types of situations always result in people arguing with each other, insulting each other, and acting like kids.

I like Beebe too. :)

uninformed is not doing your research and just jumping into the gossip.

I'm not sure Beebe's letter said much either. I was actually at a lunch with him on Wednesday and we were able to ask him a few questions. I think we know the university's position, there are handbooks we can look at. The whole lunch just made me a little frustrated with the media and reminded me of what Ethan Jerome warned us about before going to Egypt. The media has an agenda.

I guess I just feel like a lot of people are getting their facts from the newspapers when there are actual sources that they can go to.

I'm not sure what should be done or where I stand on the whole issue and I don't mind if other people have a stand or opinion I just hope they draw from good sources.

Oh, I do agree and you weren't being offensive. I do think that some people really are concerned about the actually issue but too many times do I see it as one group using an issue to get upset not just at the problems surrounding the issue but at SAU herself and then the other group tries to respond by making even worse claims against that group. It simply becomes a battle on spring arbor not about the issue but about student to student.

I think this issue can be delt with out of love and concern but right now it's making a lot of students get upset...at each other.

It is good to critique our university but I guess I just prefer that people go to actual sources for their information and not to the media. There is a reason why this is hitting national news but the national news isn't always honest.

I guess I don't really know what to do about the whole things either, but I do hope that those who do want to get involved know what their talking about .

I don't mean to be anonymous, but I am not a regular LiveJournal user, and don't wish to register. I agree that the media isn't the best place to get your information, so I've started my own blog (http://myfathershe.com) to try and control what is happening with the story surrounding my father ("J." Nemecek). However, Spring Arbor did have a chance to respond to the CitPat article, but chose not to. In fact, I have yet to see anything defining what scripture they base these "convictions" on. They must believe something pretty strongly to fire someone over it, yet they don't say what they believe. Are they ashamed to state what they believe?

Thank you so much for starting a blog. I think that's a wonderful idea. Like I said, people going to the media for their sources and not ACTUAL sources. You, if you are who you say you are :) are a real source. These types of topics are starting to get out of control (Dr. Beebe’s leave and your father).

I guess this is just an issue I choose to stay out of to some extent because on this campus it is not about the issue but about arguing with each other. I guess I can kind of see where SAU is coming from not because of scripture but because of image. However, I will try and keep up with your blog when I can so I can hear two sides of the story:). As one professor said, there were errors on both sides when trying to deal with this issue.

And I do hope that's true. The whole post comes out of talking with Beebe about the way the media handles both his possible leave and J. Nemecek. Also, it wasn’t until after the whole or deal started traveling around campus that I started hearing things like "hey, did you read about this? What do you think? SAU is stupid." ...etc. I don't know much about the facebook groups and I guess I really don't care what facebook group you join unless it's a hate group. But I felt like there was a piece of juicy gossip floating around and people wanted to get in on it. So they did; without facts, or care. I don't think EVERYONE is acting like this and I don't mind talking about the issue, but let's be civil.

It may just be me, but I do think we’ve been pretty civil through this LJ discussion.

P.S. totally changing directions, but do you guys at have a mail box by your house? You don't use the campus mail anymore, right?
