Don't worry, its not just your dad, you're not alone in the world with how things go. I guess they're just exactly from another place and time. It doesn't reflect badly on you at all btw.

Hey Kiffa, I tend to think that the end response of Well Christopher, take care of yourself sums up a bit more your fathers feelings than the words speak. As you stated yourself that spending time with your father was a bit of a rare occurrence and so I think your father responded in a manner like a grandparent does when they try to spoil their grandson

There are always people who never get it. It's frustrating to deal with them. You can explain all day long but they see the world through their own special tinted glasses and will do what they want/ think what they want.

We all have little crappy occurrences and frustrating people to deal with. Life is sucky that way.
