The American Dream

Dear Internet,

What exactly were you raised to believe was the American dream?

I have my own ideas, and I will share them shortly, but I am curious what you have experienced. Feel free to respond even if you aren't American. ;)

Truly,
Kigs

according to my mother, at least 60k salary, a house, a car; with addendum by my father, a job where i don't have to work very hard but make a lot of money. also one where the government doesn't take away your money every time you try to get rich. you can also file a lawsuit whenever you don't get your way.

(i don't think i ever agreed with that)

The idea that if you worked hard enough, you could become as wealthy as anyone out there. That effort would always yield results no matter how long it would take, and that everyone had an even playing field.

I wasn't, really.

At this point my American Dream is to not have to be affected by what other people's idea of the American Dream is.
