 So.

I'm feeling a bit obsessed and brokish at the moment.

My dear friend Miako made the mistake of showing me these dolls she's been obsessing over for a while.  They're called BJD's, or ball-jointed dolls.  They're like... megaBarbies on speed and waaaaay more expensive!  They're sort of strung together with wire and string and metal hooks, which allows them to take and hold natural human poses.  That and their extremely lifelike faces make them both extremely gorgeous and artful, but also a bit creepy, heehee.

So, I'd gone through the majority of my life without lusting for anything truly overpriced, something that I'd freak out over and whine about not getting.  I'm not a collector type person, so I thought I was okay.  And then she shows me this bjd site, called Dream of Doll.  It's one of the most well known doll companies, as their dolls are extremely beautiful and well made.  I took one look and was like... floored.  Those dolls are gorgeous.  They have thes amazing, expressive faces, these intense eyes, and the most perfect lips!  Then... I saw Ducan.

Ducan is one of their Dream of Teen dolls.  There's this whole weird storyline for them, with priests and warriors and spies, which of course means awesome outfits for them.  Ducan is sort of a fallen angel/demon thing who "came back as a human".  He has these soft sleepy, bedroom eyes, shaggy dark brown hair with a shock of blonde on one side, this amazing leather and knit and buckle set of clothes (very Cloud Strife, actually), and these lips...  Ugh, those lips are like heaven in resin.  It was like love at first sight.

I have to admit I did spread the love a bit.  There's another doll in the same line called Code 2.  He's dressed in futuristic black leather with a long coat, and with his shaggy silver hair he's like the doll version of Kadaj from Advent Children.  If you asked me then which DoD doll I'd get first, I'd have sworn it would be him.  Especially because right after that I found a doll from the DollZone company, called Wing 2, that looks sort of like a futuristic pirate version of Yazoo!  I thought if I got both, I'd have like this perfect set.  All I'd have to do is find a grumpy looking older doll to be Loz!  I really got stuck on Wing, and decided he'd be my first BJD.  But I couldn't stop myself going back to DoD and looking at both Code 2 and Ducan.  Slowly I found myself not looking at Code 2 anymore, and Ducan just became it for me.  Miako said that she'd heard from other BJD collectors that if there's a doll that you keep going back to look at over and over, you will own that doll.  I guess I sealed my own fate then, because I decided right then and there that Ducan would be mine.

And so the browsing became joining Den of Angels (hi, I'm Kiharu89 ^^) and stalking photostory threads and threads on how to make jeans for your doll and tracking down pics of Tom and Bill Kaulitz BJDs.  I'm in the long process of saving up for my little resin man and learning how to care for him when he finally arrives, hopefully spring of next year.  *crosses finger and toes*

bill & tom kaulitz, love at first sight, bjds, life
