It wasn't very often that a day such as this one came around. Alec took off as soon as he woke up, before anyone had the chance to stop him or tell him he had something better to do. By the time everyone else was coming down for breakfast, Alec was sitting in the back of a taxi on its way to Brooklyn, his head resting against the window. The sky was a lovely light blue this early in the morning, and Alec knew as soon as he stepped foot outside of the Institute that it was going to be an amazing day. The sun still hung low in the sky by the time he pulled up at Magnus' place, and the air around Alec was cool as he got out of the taxi, but that didn't matter. The day was sure to warm up, and Alec was pretty sure that even if it didn't, his time with Magnus would still be absolutely perfect.
“When you told me you'd be getting here early, I don't think I quite understood what you meant until right this moment,” came Magnus' voice from the door. Alec smiled up at him, and Magnus wiggled his fingers in a playful wave. “In any case, I'm glad you came early. It's a beautiful day already. We can head out early. Chairman Meow won't mind having the house to himself for the day.” As if on cue, the cat in question poked his head out from behind one of Magnus' legs. Magnus reached down and scooped him up into his arms, scratching his head gently as he waited for Alec to ascend the stairs. “Do they know you're here today?” he asked, raising a curious eyebrow in Alec's direction.
Alec couldn't help but chuckle as he shook his head. “They don't. Jace does. And Isabelle. They're covering for me for the day.” he shrugged.
“That was nice of them.”
Alec nodded. “I have a feeling I'm going to owe them for it later, but it's totally worth it as far as I'm concerned.” He flashed a quick smile to Magnus and reached up to take his hand. “Are you ready to go or do you still need to get ready?”
“Alec, it's a park. There's trees and grass and pretty much nothing else. I don't think it will change much if we lag behind a bit...” Magnus chuckled. There was a sort of musical quality to his voice. Alec loved it. Magnus reached forward and tousled his hair playfully. “I'm just kidding. I'm almost ready to go. You think the weather will behave for us today?”
Alec looked up at the clear blue sky. “Supposed to. Sunny all day. Nice breeze. It'll be perfect.”
Just shy of twenty minutes later, Alec and Magnus were making their way out of his home hand-in-hand. Magnus held tightly to an old picnic basket in his free hand. Chairman Meow watched the couple from the window as they departed. Just as Magnus suspected, he was quite glad to have the house to himself for a while...

The air around them was completely still as they strolled through the park. Alec leaned into Magnus, pressing against his form as they walked. They stopped when they reached an old oak tree. The temperature was already starting to climb, and the shade would provide a nice refuge from the afternoon sun.
Alec flopped unceremoniously into the grass and sprawled out onto his back, a soft sigh parting his lips. “See?” he whispered, looking up at Magnus with a smile on his face. “I told you. It's absolutely perfect out here.”
Magnus slid to his knees and laid back into the patch of grass beside Alec. He wasn't usually the type to do such things, but with Alec, everything had been different. He loved seeing that smile on his face, even if the reason behind it didn't seem to make any sense to him. “It kind of itches down here, actually...” he mused.
“I think it feels nice.”
Magnus rolled onto his side and shielded his eyes as he looked up at the sky. “Where's that breeze you were talking about earlier?” he asked jokingly.
Alec sat up and stretched his arms out over his head before raking his fingertips through his hair. Magnus watched him quietly. A small smile crossed his face, and he reached out, stretching himself over Magnus and plucking the old picnic basket up from its home by the tree trunk. “What did you pack for lunch?” he asked, opening up the basket and rummaging through it, ignoring Magnus' earlier question.
The warlock couldn't help but chuckle. “How can you be hungry at a time like this? I think it's too hot for food.” he observed. “Besides, I was just getting comfortable...”
Tiny beads of sweat had already begun to form across Alec's forehead. He wiped them away with the fabric of his t-shirt and then pulled the newly-dampened fabric up and over his head. Magnus regarded him with wide eyes and a soft smile. He really was beautiful, and although he wouldn't outwardly admit it just yet, the Shadowhunter had him wrapped around his little finger.
“What on earth do you think you're doing?” he finally asked, gesturing to Alec's bare top half.
Alec laughed, and a soft blush colored his cheeks as he met Magnus' gaze. “It's hot out here. I'm just cooling off. Besides, there are fourteen-year-old girls who walk around this park in less than what I'm wearing right now.”
“Oh, I didn't say I was complaining,” Magnus amended, a soft twinkle in his eyes.
Alec sucked in a deep breath when he finally felt the missing breeze. The soft wind whistled through the trees, and Alec fell back into the grass with a contented sigh. “Perfect,” he whispered. His chest rose and fell with each breath he took, his gaze directed upwards, past the trees and into the sky beyond. Beside him, Magnus rolled to his side again and propped himself up on his elbow, resting his head against his hand as he stared down at Alec.
“It's not just the weather that's perfect, you know...”
Magnus leaned over his lover, a playful smile on his face, and lowered himself slowly, ghosting a hot breath over Alec's skin before claiming his lips in a kiss. Alec moaned softly, the heat rushing to his cheeks once more. The rest of the world melted away as the wind picked up around them. Magnus' fingers hovered over Alec's bare skin, but the warlock didn't need to touch him. The wind did all the work, teasing his bare flesh with the gentleness of a lover's fingertips, taunting and tickling and tempting all at once. Alec let out another low moan as his eyes slid closed. “Magnus...”
Magnus couldn't help but smile. Alec had been right. This day really was perfect.
