I give up. I have struggled with this for several hours now, and I can't spend more time. If you feel like adding an item in my stocking, just add it as a comment to this post.
I'm totally mystified why this works for others, and not for me.
Here's what I did, to debug the problem and make sure that I did not have this problem, and it still failed for me!
I took a look at the source of a friend's working stocking.
I copied and pasted it in notepad. Next I edited it very carefully, replacing only their LJname with mine (this required only one substitution), and their user_id (replaced twice) with my own.
Everything else was unchanged, and therefore identical (that happens when you use cut and paste! :-) Then I cleared my own LJ input buffer, selected source mode, and pasted the modified HTML in, I previewed the submission and it looked fine and had the button and everything. Then I saved it as the above post.
Yet the save post has the " " text where the submit button should be. I have no idea what is causing my posts to
