Interesting. I DID notice the significant event change, but didn't think it WAS significant until I did some difficult navigation through the website about the video.

hmmm. So I saw the change...and while watching it, I kind of have to wonder something. Since people have good things in their lives, why are they always feeling as though they are missing something? I've seen it happen many times, with a lot of my friends. Is it that we always want what we think we SHOULD have rather than appreciating what we DO have? And I don't necessarily mean object, but the warm feelings of our friends, the loving kindess from our families whoever makes that up, the sweetness of our loves. These are things that can't be bought, yet bring many colors and facets to our lives. Without them, our lives would be very empty and sad...

So, I want to choose to be happy and live my life in the present, and just be in the moment. And I appreciate your posts and how they make me think things I wouldn't have thought otherwise...

I can't speak for others but I can state more about how I feel. I feel happy. I feel appreciative for what I have. I feel that there is even more out there that I could also appreciate if I just noticed more. I believe that I can train myself to notice more.

Would noticing more make me happier? I don't know. But it would make me more aware and more appreciative, as there would be even more to appreciate. A melody line is beautiful, a harmony line adds richness, and orchestration even more complexity and breadth. Working on learning to hear a sonata in full concert hall polyphony doesn't take away from the enjoyment of just the melody line in a ring tone.

We have so little time to live this life, why not keep increasing our ability to live if ever more fully each day if we can? That need not take away from living in the moment, but it does involve "sharpening the saw" constantly.

This experiment reminds me of the gender roles flashcards that I was told about in Sociology of Human Sexuality. Children would be shown images of a girl jumping rope, a boy playing with trucks, a girl playing baseball, a boy playing with dolls, etc. A week later they were asked to describe what they saw, and would report that the cards showed girls jumping rope and playing with dolls, and boys playing baseball and playing with trucks. Selective memory according to societal norms.

Ah, Gender Roles and Societal Norms. There a meaty topic! But that will have to be another time; this blond needs some beauty sleep!
