But I think the "experience" portion of the new XBox upgrade may be for the younger crowd. My son is 14 and bloody loves it!

I hate it so much.

But then... I really really hate change, so that's probably a large part of the problem. Seriously, though - now there's all this empty wasted space on my screen, and everything has tiny font. I can barely read it anymore! (Yes, I will be having my eyes checked, appt is already made. ~grin~)

It's really easy to put a UNIX OS on X-Box.

Lots of tutorials, and it would be compatible with your (Future) XO's.

I think the new "experience" is sort of irritating, but I don't mind it. I think I'll get used to it, and I have to confess that I like my avatar (which really does look like me to an almost eerie extent.)

I hated the original interface when I first got my 360. I figure it'll just take time for me to this this one is less irritating.

I couldn't agree more. My techie BF is still having some trouble adjusting to the new setup. I don't even have an Xbox and it makes me crazy. Everytime I want to play rock band (using my Bf's xbox), I have to go through an extremely unesasary litney of shit just to play.
