I just beat Doom 3. My early impressions still stand 100%. That game was a fucking ride.

My favorite parts of the game are easily the Hell and post-hell areas of the game. Hell reminded me a lot of a mix of Diablo II's fourth act and American McGee's Alice, which was just perfect. Once you got back to the UAC facility and Hell has just completely overrun the base, there are a ton of cool scenes there (one of the coolest effects in the game was the hallway that split open to reveal the burning hell-cavern surrounding the base. At first I thought it was just another hallucination, and I was like, "hey, cool, that's pretty creepy... oh, shit, that's not a hallucination!").

The last two bosses were awesome. The balrog boss in Hell was pretty creative, and he looked badass. The set up for the final boss area was incredible, and the cavern you fight him in was beautiful, though I thought that fight could've been a little harder. I only got hit by him once because I slipped up, and since you have to use the soul cube to kill him anyway, I was right back at full health almost immediately. They should've taken the constant health recharge into consideration during that battle. It probably would've been better with Hell Knights and Archviles running around instead of the imps and those little teleporty guys. They give you a ton of ammo right before that battle, so they should've given you a chance to use it.

I can't wait to start playing around with this editor, and seeing the kinds of maps and mods people come up with for this game.

Now that I've beaten the game, it's time to go re-read all those Doom 3 threads at PvP so I can read the spoilers this time. It was driving me crazy having all those spoiler-filled threads that I couldn't read (too bad they're all graveyarded by now, so I can't contribute. Bah. Stupid getting the game late).
