Saturday Evening at the Brownstone

"The house is ours tonight, boys!" Kiki grinned, sticking a bag of popcorn in the microwave. "We have a stack of movies, ranging from pure sugar to pure adrenaline, all guaranteed to rot our brains! Temporarily anyway. Hey, paws off, you two, this here is mine," she said, holding her hard cider away from the feline and the ferret. She settled ( Read more... )

Having received the phone message from Dr. Wilson to please stop by and check on Kiki, Yazoo sent his brothers on ahead to the Triangle, telling them he would catch up.

He leaned against the doorjamb, arms crossed over his shoulder, waiting for Kiki to answer the door.

Spying the silver hair out the window, Kiki quickly tugged the door open. "Yazoo!" she exclaimed. "I didn't expect you to drop by. Please, come on in!" She stepped back and held the door open with a welcoming gesture.

"Hey," he said. Smiling at her, Yazoo nodded his head in welcome in stepped into the foyer. "I won't keep you long but Dr. Wilson asked if I would at least come by and make sure you're okay while they are away."

"Really?" Kiki smiled. "That was so thoughtful of him! We're doing okay; everything's been really quiet. Say, would you like to stay for a bit? I just made some popcorn and I've got some hard cider if you'd like a bottle."

Yazoo looked at his bottle and nodded his head. He took a sip to buy himself some time to respond. "I still have respect for Dr. Wilson." There was a pause while he thought the next part through and realized that regardless of what happened, he did still respect Aziraphale.

The trust would take time but Aziraphale seemed willing to be patient while he worked through it and Yazoo did miss being with him. He could say that he considered Aziraphale as a friend. Something that was quite rare in his life.

"And I respect Aziraphale. He has a difficult task to balance everything as only he can do."

She might not know Yazoo very well, but Kiki was beginning to get a sense of his depths. She took a piece of popcorn and chewed it thoughtfully for a moment.

"There's not," she answered slowly, "many people who could be that fair about it, I don't think. They'd be too hurt."

"I'm not sure I am," he said with a wry smile. "I probably wouldn't try if he hadn't written me a letter trying to explain."

"You're trying, though, which is important," Kiki answered quietly. "And I know that means a great deal to Aziraphale."
