1. Promises, Promises
To this day he doesn’t know why he puts up with him. They were practically forced to be with one another 24/7.
As Donghae was left to go on and on about how his mommy was going to buy him and make him his new pet, Hyukjae had went elsewhere, picking up his doll and going straight into another room.
“Hey, wait-” the younger boy had called, chasing after his supposable new friend.
Hyukjae was found in the corner of his mansion’s library, the spacious section purposefully secluded off from the rest of the world with a large bookshelf and a chair, an enormous blue blanket draping across the opening and forming a makeshift tent from it.
Donghae hesitantly crawls inside, finding the five year old boy singing quietly to his doll.
“Hey what are you doin-”
“Shhhh,” the red head shushed, rocking his baby doll gingerly as he went back to his song.
If there was one thing Donghae could never stand, it would be being ignored.
He smacks the other on the top of his head, not even caring if it was their first time meeting.
“I said ‘what are you doing’,” he clarified, flinching a bit when the elder boy stopped his singing and glared at him.
“Can you stop? I’m singing my baby a bullabye.”
“A bullabye?” he questioned, looking down at the small baby doll in the boy’s arms.
For a rich kid, the doll wasn’t made with anything extravagant.
Long, dark yarn poured out of the doll’s head for hair, and her skin was made with some type of really soft cotton, the creamy fibers woven with care as he glanced at the pink hue staining her cheeks. Dark fibers were sewn neatly onto her face to create a soft expression of a smile, the design in an upwards position to represent the doll having two perfect little crescent moons for eyes. A small pink button was used to mark where her nose would go, and around her small body hung a light blue cotton dress.
Cheap shit.
But Donghae would never say that aloud, for his mom said he needed to be best friends with this kid. So he commented on it in nicer terms.
“Where did that come from?” he sneered, the red head gritting his teeth and clenching his small fists.
“My Nana made this for me,” Hyukjae snapped back, scooting further away from the brunette as the latter scoffed at his precious new toy.
“Someone made that?”
“Yes, and I love it very, very much. She said she spent years and years on it, and gaved it to me. And it’s the best. Cuz’ she said she put love in it.”
Donghae stared in disbelief, not knowing how something so cheap could be loved so much.
There’s only so much a four year old’s mind can grasp.
“What’s love gotta do with it? Dolls are for girls anyway. My hyung says so,” the younger childishly replied, pouting when the other turns around to ignore him again. “What’s a ‘Nana’ anyway?” he continued. “Is that your babysitter?”
A loud huff was heard before Hyukjae whipped his head back around, his pout rivaling Donghae’s as he becomes flushed with anger.
“My Nana is my big sister you big fatty dumb face! My nana is the bestest nana ever and she made me a doll and I love it! It’s the bestest EVER. And if you’re gonna play with me then you gotta be nice to me and my doll and call me hyung! I’m your hyung!”
“Nana? Don’t you mean noona?”
“WHO CARES I SAID BE NICE!”
“Whatever. My mommy’s gonna buy you anyway. You don’t need your stupid dolly either cuz’ I’m gonna keep you forever and ever. Where’s your tail anyway Mr. Kitty?”
“I’M NOT A CAT.”
“Whatever, you’re gonna be my cat.”
“I’m not gonna play with you anymore if you keep saying that!”
“Hey kitty, you can’t be mean cuz’ my mommy says we s’posed to be best friends forever.”
“I’m not gonna be friends with you cuz’ your mean to my nana and my new doll!”
“You mean noona?”
“I SAID THAT. NANA.”
“So if I’m nice to your stupid dolly I can keep you forever?”
“SHE’S NOT STUPID! She’s perfect and beautiful and PERFECT.”
“So then I can have you and you can live with me and be my cat right?”
Hyukjae’s face became even more red as he threw his shoe at the other, kicking Donghae out of his tent and throwing his blanket at him.
Donghae recovered from the attack quickly, pouting vigorously as he sat with a whine on the floor, not even realizing the lollipop he’s had in his hand this whole time had somehow ended up in his hair.
“Why are you being mean?” he sulked, “my mommy said we were gonna be bestest best friends forever.”
The red head couldn’t help but sigh and put his doll on the floor to help take the sucker out of Donghae’s fluffed brown hair.
“I only be nice to peoples nice to me,” he mumbled, concentrating on not getting the sticky candy on himself. “I love my dolly and I love my nana. You hafta be nice, too.”
With a loud sigh Donghae caved in, quickly moving to pick up the doll before settling back down on the floor so Hyukjae can finish getting the candy out.
“I like you dolly,” he admitted quietly to the doll, brushing the long strands of black yarn. “I’m sorry I hated you and stuffs. My cat’s noona is a nice noona and she makes pretty dolls.”
At the confession the five year old smiled a huge gummy smile, the boy leaving the sucker stuck in his hair and taking the doll into his arms so he could give the younger a big, wet smack on the lips.
“I think so too,” he smiled, too far into his own world to notice how Donghae’s eyes widened from his sudden kiss.
The four year old began to scream and cry, leaving Hyukjae confused before gaping in disbelief when he heard the other yell, “MOMMY! MY CAT KISSED ME ON THE MOUTH! I’M INFECTEDED!! Gah- IT WAS SO GROSS!!”
