Climate change is a GLOBAL occurrence. It will affect everyone in some way shape or form. This is the second part where I talk about a different country I have chosen.
Let’s look at the second country of my choice, Japan.
Rice is an essential part of Japanese agriculture. It is a staple to their diet and so is heavily relied on with global warming it is predicted that production of paddy rice is likely to decrease by staggering 12-13 percent.
Here is a graph showing the forecast of rice yield by the year 2060.
Japan imports about 60% of what it eats. In contrast, the UK imports about 25%. Masayuki Yokozawa from the National Institute for Agro-Environmental Sciences in Tsukuba said “Japan imports major cereals, wheat, maize and soybean from the US, Australia and Brazil. There is a risk that simultaneous natural disasters associated with climate change could occur in these areas, resulting in massive damage to world cereal production and food supply to Japan.”
There will be a decrease in the amount of fish that are caught. Japan with a population that accounts for 2% of the world catches 10% of fish. Fish accounts for 40% of the proteins that the Japanese consume and there could be server effects if the amount of fish were to decrease.
Rainfall will decrease with global warming is predicted that in less than 100 years some parts of Japan by get less than 100mm of rain a year.
City planner will find it hard to plan new developments because of the extreme winds, heat and intense bursts of rainfall.
The amount of people dying from heat strokes will increase more so in urban areas because of the ‘urban heat island’ effect.
Rising sea levels could cause ‘earthquake induces tsunami’s’ and cause devastation.
