Mark woke up early the next morning, the sun just starting to rise, to an empty bed. He’d gotten up with London three times during the night, insisting that Sabrina get some sleep, so he assumed that she was with their daughter now. He got out of bed and tiptoed to the next room. Being careful not to draw attention to himself, he stuck his head in the door and found Sabrina leaning over the edge of the crib talking softly to London, one hand reaching down and her fingers brushing the baby’s cheek.
“You need to go back to sleep, baby girl. Mommy needs to have a shower and daddy’s still sleeping. Awwww.” Sabrina’s hand moved, picked up the soother, and placed it in London’s mouth. “Shhhhh, it’s ok sweetie.”
“Morning.” Mark decided to make his presence known.
“Hey.” Sabrina looked at him, surprised. “I didn’t think you were awake.”
“I just got up a couple minutes ago.” He explained.
“You should’ve stayed in bed for a bit. You were up with her a lot last night.”
“I know, but it’s ok. I’ll have a nap later or something.” He smiled, “I’ll take her back to bed with me now if you want to have a shower. Doesn’t look like she wants to go back to sleep.” They both looked down at London who had spit out her soother and was squirming and crying.
“That would be nice.” Sabrina agreed.
“Come here, baby. We’ll go snuggle in the big bed.” He lifted her from her crib and grabbed the soft pink blanket that was draped over the rocking chair. He carried her back to their room and climbed into bed, adjusting her in his arms while Sabrina headed for the bathroom. “That’s better, isn’t it? You just like being snuggled.” He leaned down and kissed her soft cheek and then buried deeper under his covers.
When Sabrina came back into the room Mark was still talking to London who had fallen back asleep. She crawled under the covers and nestled close into Mark’s side.
“Fast asleep again.” She said.
“She just likes to be cuddled.” Mark smiled.
“And you have no problem with that.” Sabrina pointed out.
“None at all. With either of my girls.” Mark wrapped his free arm around Sabrina and pulled her even closer into his side then kissed the top of her head.
“I love having a baby with you.” Sabrina rested her head on Mark’s shoulder.
“It’s the best.” Mark agreed.
“The absolute best.” Sabrina repeated him and then turned her face up for a kiss.
