ah fuck. did you write your pol psych paper on rational choice theory? I did. as a soc major, I fucking hate rational choice theory. too simplistic and general. I don't like theories that explain away anything good about people. n'est pas?
anyways. good luck on your paper, and on the test next week. I haven't seen you in class much, but I've been too distracted by my friends who talk too much. One of them is a comdian. the other is not funny. they make an interesting pair.
I am writing my paper on rational choice theory... emphasis being on the 'writing' part, as it is due in less than 7 hours and I currently have zero words. But hey, I know what I want to say! I, too, despise rational choice theory, in much the same way that I despise republican ideology. Life is not black and white, it cannot be divided simply into right and wrong, and dammit, people do not always act rationally!
My problem with this paper is that I listened to her lecture, and formulated my opinion, and now I have to tie in the readings somehow... which I am currently struggling through. Yeah, about that....
hi, you don't know me, but i got here through by way of a friend's (fireflyab) friend page.
your lj seems funny and interesting. so i hope you don't mind i'm friending you.
i always thought rational choice theory sounded rather, um, stupid as well. so your hypothesis is that there are some choices humans make rationally and others that they make non-rationally and that's what's wrong with the theory? do you think then that the theory has any worth for explaining other behaviour that might be more rational, like what stores we shop at? and do you think that the formula could be salvaged by just amending the definitions of the variables to be perceived cost, perceived benefit, etc.?
Heh... I went back and read that now that I am supposedly awake (2 hours does not a night of sleep make). I think you got a more coherent version than the professor I was writing the paper for... which does not bode well for my grade. Oh well.
