So wait, you were just standing there, and your knee spontaneously dislocated? What on earth happened?? D-:
Your job is going to let you work from home for three weeks? Or give you three weeks off? Either way, I hope you're feeling better soon.. that sounds really rough. :(
Well, it appears that it was already partially dislocated from the first injury, and then it just went the rest of the way while I was walking. So, yes, basically. Not a pleasant experience.
I honestly don't know what work is going to do; I was told that with my documents from the ER I should be okay, and if nothing else my summer vacation starts on the 15th so at least some of that time won't be unsanctioned days off as it were...but I am just worried that the length of time is going to put me in a bad spot. I don't want to try going back too soon and doing this all over again, which I am told is common...so I'm kind of in a really shitty position where there's nothing I can do (I told them to tell me if there's any work I can do from home, though) and just hope for it to work out.
If you need a good painkiller, I recommend Loxonin S. It's an OTC version of what I was given at the hospital for my surgery. It actually works, and this is coming from someone who has to take 4-5 Advil for anything... It's only able to be sold by a pharmacist, so it'll have to be gotten at a bigger drug store, and they might grill the buyer as to why they want it and so forth, but it is in fact OTC...
I use it for my migraines. Definitely better than ibuprofen.
...public transportation sucks ass, I want a car. D: I've had a similar thing happen to me on the bus, although my knee didn't fully dislocate. ER in Japan sucks, the first time I pulled and partially tore my ligaments I could feel my lower leg being quite literally loose but they took an xray, told me I had some bruises on my ankle and sent me on my (limping) way. I found out I had partially torn a bunch of stuff about a year after the actual injury, and it had set weirdly by then. I recommend going to another hospital if you haven't already, just to check to see if anything else is broken... especially if it was a prior injury.
Ugh. My condolences on having such an awful experience. Luckily I think things are getting better, though I wish the ER doc hadn't really lowballed the recovery time and made me feel like an asshole (every website I've read about it says 4-6 weeks until recovery. He told me 3). I think I'm very lucky that it's not more serious, because they really do just send you on your way to 我慢 through it even if it's something that you really, really shouldn't (or physically can't). I'm just glad that my job is being cool with it and giving me the time I need to recover though I feel like shit about it.
Right now, honestly, I would kill even to have a FRIEND with a car. I'm not looking forward to the first few days, at least, where I will have to pay to call taxis to get me to the train station and get me to my work building. I can't wait to see how Tokyo thinks it's going to get itself up to disability standards for the Olympics...I think most of the Yamanote stations, at least, would be better off burned to the ground and started over. XD
