I've come to the conclusion that Japanese people automatically think you're mentally unsound if you look disabled, and some people will directly tell you that you can't wear nice clothes if you are! (Also they won't ever agree that you're disabled if you don't actually look it) D:
I'm so so sorry that you got injured in cold, rude Tokyo. I hope you don't develop anxiety on trains like I did because it's terrible when you're living in Tokyo.
May I suggest that you invest in a cheap backpack/100 yen plastic basket and stuff, that you can attach to your walker for carrying things (duct tape is your friend)? I have a bicycle pouch on my old crutches for putting money/Suica in and things so I can access them easily. The kitchen in my dorm is incredibly far from the refrigerator/my room so I found using a cheap backpack really effective, as long as you keep everything in non-spill tupperware and ziploc bags.
Yeah, there's totally a stigma on looking a certain way, here, and I think it certainly extends to (sadly) "If they're getting around outside, they don't need help or courtesy. If they were REALLY in need of help, they'd have a caretaker/be in a wheelchair/stay at home and stop getting in our way".
I'm already starting to feel extremely anxious about going to work tomorrow, for sure. I'm still trying to decide what my plan of attack is going to be.
Unfortunately my city is pretty barren for anything useful but there has to be a small bag around here I can use if I decide I need one. Thanks!
