Pregnancy Journal

I was going through my pregnancy journal and decided to post some of it here. It's not very interesting, just something to look back on when I'm pg again.

December 15, 2004 (4w4d) - It’s a BABY!
Aaron was going to the store and called me at work to ask if I needed anything. I said yes but I didn’t want to say what I needed over the phone. His first guess was tampons and I replied with, “I wish.” He then guessed a pregnancy test. (My period was 4 days late) I got home from work and he was doing the dishes and the test was on the kitchen counter. I tried to stall taking it but he pushed it into my hands and guided me towards the bathroom. I shut the door because I didn’t want an audience while I peed on a stick. The sign for positive was 2 pink lines. Both lines showed up as I was peeing on the stick. I put the cover on and went into the living room and Aaron asked, “Well?” I said that you have to wait 3 minutes because I was in shock. He waited like 30 seconds and then went to look at the test and asked what 2 lines meant. I played dumb at first and said “Shut-up! No way!” I didn’t sleep a wink that night but Aaron took a sleeping pill so he slept fine!

First Trimester Summary
Liked sour foods like grapefruit, lemonade, cranberry juice, etc. Avoided anything sweet. Tended to eat things that wouldn’t hurt if they came back up. Had cramping but never spotted. More vaginal discharge than before. Breast got a cup size bigger and were very tender and sensitive. Nipples also got bigger and darker. Very tired but mostly due to not keeping food down. Went to bed at 7 or 8pm many nights. Headaches were common. Very moody and irritable. Smells sometimes bothered me. Sneezed a lot throughout the day, sun or no sun. Had to eat between meals so I wouldn’t get nauseous; would get close to throwing up if I didn’t eat. Pants started getting tight but not ready for maternity clothes. Lots of diarrhea. Face broke out even worse than usual especially along my jaw line.

April 7 (20w5d) It’s a BOY!
First ultrasound! We were a little shocked at first that it was a boy as we were leaning towards a girl. He moved around a lot and was very active. At one point he curled his legs up over his head - so cute! Saw his male parts several times, not a shy baby. Measuring one week ahead. Weighs 1 lb 1 oz. Heart rate was 154 bpm. He also had his hands by his face a couple of times. The ultrasound took about one hour total. My bladder was full, but not too uncomfortable since I can hold it pretty long.

After the ultrasound we went out for dinner at the Maritime and then called Robyn first. We stopped by Grandma Bernie and Grandpa Bob but they weren’t home so we went to Grandma D’s house and showed her the pictures (5 in total). Then we drove home and called Jessie, Aaron’s mom and my parents. Next we called Nate & Stacy but they weren’t home, Nate Moore who also wasn’t home and Ryan Tresp and Holly & Dave.

April 8 (20w6d)
Told my work that it’s a boy and wore a baby blue shirt in honor of the little guy. The girls were surprised and the guys said, I told you so. Everyone’s excited and happy.
We also decided to keep all names we are considering and ultimately the name we choose a secret until he’s born.

Second Trimester Summary
More energy and less tired. Don’t have to snack between meals as much. Can eat sweet things but still not high on the priority list. More small aches and pains than before in my neck, back, legs, tummy and arms. Growing pains? Still sneezing a lot. Skin is itchy and dry especially my tummy and boobs. Nails are stronger and body hair is growing faster. Face cleared up somewhat. Less moody than first trimester. Baby’s kicking lots and has gotten the hiccups a few times. Boobs started leaking mostly when I’m lying down and squishing them. Color is clear/yellowish. Aaron’s been so sweet. He gets the biggest grin every time he sees my growing tummy. He also likes to play with my “outie”.

Third Trimester Summary
Moodier than normal (Aaron loves this!). More aches and pains all over. Inside of my left leg hurts as though there’s a pinched nerve. Back hurts on the middle right side, near my spine. I’m limited to what I can eat (6 small meals) which is okay but sometimes I crave chocolate. I’ve been eating more fruit than I probably should but it’s summer and the fruit is so good now! My face started breaking out more than in the 2nd trimester. I haven’t had many problems with swelling unless I’m outside in the heat or on my feet real long. It’s August and my rings still fit. Baby moves a lot. He seems to have stayed in the same position for a long time with (what I think) is his head on my lower left and his butt and legs on my upper right. Lots of rib kicks! Sometimes he sticks his foot or knee out of my side and I have to gently push him back in because it hurts. He gets the hiccups a lot. Skin is very dry, especially on my tummy where it gets really itchy so I put cocoa butter on it sometimes twice a day. Sometimes my “shelf” feels like there are needles pricking the skin or a burning sensation. I’m not sure what this is.
