Title: Tradition
Characters: Honjo family
What: A traditional Christmas with the Honjo family.
There was never really a set tradition when it came to the holidays, especially in a household like Ren and Catty’s. However a few things were mandatory in preparation for the special day at hand;
Get a tree
Decorate it
Have gifts under it by Christmas morning.
How that came to be usually varied depending on how fussy the 10 and 5 year old children were. Lily was somewhat a stickler for perfection or, at the very least, some shred of things being done right. Rowan seemed to do things his own way that benefited him and, to Lily, it was always the wrong way.
“Get the big one, Daddy!” Rowan shouted, running forward and pointing to the biggest tree in the lot as the three of them searched. Lily, who was holding her father’s hand, gave her brother a big disapproving look and replied, “It won’t fit in the house.”
“It’ll fit in the backyard.”
“It has to be in the living room!”
“No it doesn’t!”
“Yes it does!”
Ren already felt the headache coming in as the two children argued over the placement of the tree and which tree they wanted and said with a sigh, “How about you two take ten minutes to decide. And, if you don’t by when time’s up, I’m just going to visit your Grandma in California and get a palm tree for Christmas.”

“Ren,” Catty frowned as she arrived home, “Why is there a palm tree in the living room?”
“Because Daddy’s mean,” Lily pouted from one corner in a small chair, Rowan on the other side of the room with an equally big frown on his face that had Catty look at her husband as if to say ‘what did you do this time?’
“Kids wouldn’t stop arguing about which tree we should get so I got something that neither of them would agree on,” Ren shrugged, “Also thought it would remind you of home.” Catty wasn’t big on religious tradition either, she was accustomed to the idea that there should be a pine tree. Ren was as well but then again, here he was with a palm tree in their house.
“Ren.”
“Catty.”
“How are we going to decorate a palm tree?”
Ren stopped talking and glanced over at his wife without a word, causing Catty to sigh, “You didn’t think about how we could decorate a palm tree with Christmas decorations?”
“You’re the artist,” Ren gave her a weak grin, “I’m sure it’ll look great either way.”
