Donnie Darko blows my mind. I seriously don't know what to think about it, aside from that I like it. There is no way anybody who isn't the director could understand what the hell is really going on in that movie without listening to the commentary track on the dvd. And I seriously want a steel lagomorph mask like Frank's now, in all its creepy

Eh, in all honesty, the commentary sort of ruined it for me.

You have this beautiful, absurd story being told and the commentary just basically says "Yeah, all that cool stuff you thought? You're wrong. Here's what really happened."

But then again, I hate having things like that explained to me, so I doubt personal prejudices were set aside.

See, I just couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. It didn't blow my mind in a "wow, that's deep" way as much, more of a "what the fuck just happened here?" way. I had accidentally caught the last 5-10 minutes of the director's commentary the night before, but I still couldn't tell whether it was Donnie just progressively losing it, or that some kind of rift in the universe occured, or whatever. Apparently you were supposed to go to the website after seeing the movie, and it would give you clues as to what exactly happened plot-wise, who/what Frank was, and what went on with the other characters and such.

But it's still very much an open-ended, "it means what you take away from it" type of movie.
