Creepy Friendditto thing

"Friendditto" is a Web site, not affiliated with LiveJournal (though I gather they're claiming to be), that is collecting people's usernames and passwords in order to archive those people's friends' friends-only posts ( Read more... )

It's dodgy as hell. LJ admin themselves have stated this.

Any site asking for your username and password to another site like that is dodgy, I just can't believe that people are stupid enough to hand them over. If it was all propaganda, then why are they facing legal action?

Because people overreact. Frienditto just makes it easier for people to do what they did all along.

It's just driving me nuts, people are going nuts, getting pissed off at Frienditto when it's their LJ friends being assholes this whole time.

Oh, the drama. It's entertaining at least. :D

I posted that because I wanted to warn people against giving out their details as it IS a security risk. I think that the fault lies in both parties, the 'friends' and the web site. I don't think any of my friends have been stupid enough to do it, however (they aren't on the lists at least). I don't really give a fuck if heaps of people want to do it, but I reserve my right to defriend them, because they would have violated my trust, and that's my prerogative.

I think its both peoples fault - friend ditto for letting people do this, and our friends for doing this. Blech! I totally agree with you on this.

Ive been thinking since I heard about this breifly this morning - well. I've already taken the step of only friending people I feel comfortable with now, perhaps I should take the further step of just friends-only/privatising my entire journal. Now that I am in a space where I would feel just fine and dandy with that.

Jeez. I wish the LJ crew would say something about this.

It would also be nice if friendditto let you opt out from letting your friends do this to you I think.

Yeah, I think it's the fault of both of them too. How stupid are people for giving the site their log in info!!?
