ok, i'm trying to start up a youth group at my church and since i know a lot of you have pretty big youth groups, i thought i'd ask : what makes you want to come to church/youth group? and what kind of things do you do there? please please please comment all you want. i need all the suggestions i can get. thanks so much :)

you should have student led worship.
let kids play the music and pick the songs.
have some down time before and after, let me people have fun first, listen second, and then talk about it afterwards.
hmm, yeah thats what my youth group does.

yeah, i was planning on student led but i dont know what to do before hand and afterwards to get people to come initially...like, our church has tried this a lot of times before and none of them have ever worked. so if you have any suggestions about some fun stuff, that would be cool :) love ys cuz

just play some music and make it a place where people can hang out, give them some down time, make it a fun place, if you make it too religious it will turn people off, if you make it fun then more people come. then more people get to meet chrsitians and realize how awesome we are.

i agree with the above. The fun part attracts people's friends, and the listening part is good for everyone, and a discussion part makes people feel included and lets them think. Always include food. Always.

having a youth pastor is a good thing. also, make sure the people who already attend go up and say "hey" to anyone they see who is new! the biggest thing that drives kids away from a youth group is feeling excluded. make sure you are friendly! step out of your comfort zone to go up and say hi to someone new, make them feel loved like christ made people feel loved!

but it cant be too religious when we're trying to get one started :x that's pretty much why we havent had a successful one yet. and we're getting a youth pastor. him and i are working on this together. i just dont know what people expect from a youth group because i've never been part of one :(
