Thoughtfulness...

Earlier tonight, I went to an old friend's house. He's a fun enough guy to be around, it's just that we never seem to be able to agree on anything, when politics are involved. It isn't actually that our opinions are that far apart - I guess it's more the clash of rational political scientist (him) vs. normative sociologist (me). I love debating - ' ( Read more... )

Funnily enough, I never read the book. I wanted to borrow it the other day, since Christiane F. hit the news again and I thought I should read her story, since everyone seems to know it, but somehow all of my friends have the book at their parents', since they only read it as kids.
The movie is really well-done, nice acting mostly, very realistic, very close to the characters - and thus very disturbing (which seems to be my favourite word tonight...).

And yeah. I'm not much of a romantic, but I like the stars. They're sort of soothing to look at.

Btw, my "drugs"-icon sort of disturbs (that word again) me right now. That movie really hit home, somehow.

Oh my, "Im Westen nichts Neues", one of my all-time favourite books. I read it in my last year of school (18-19 years old), I remember my mood would change at every page, I went from laughing to almost crying in 5 minutes. And the ending hit me like a punch in the gut.

Ooh, I hate it when politics and religion get brought up in a conversation D: I may just have to have a protest against arguments and lie in until the afternoon in the name of world peace!

Yeah, well, I don't like arguing about religion, either (because rationality doesn't play any part in there - you either believe or you don't, end of story).
However, talking about politics and the state of things sort of comes with my line of science - and usually, I really enjoy a good conversation about that. It's just that so much came together tonight. I'm not used to that any more, with my brain being used to being lazy at the moment... XD

Lol, I'm so fed up with people talking about the state of things to come as though they'll die in the coming recession XD I was a child of Thatcher's iron reign of terror! Throw your worst at me, world economy, I'm looking forward to the challenge!

When my friends and I talk about politics, it usually turns into a big Berlusconi-bashing, Church-bashing (because the Church is in politics too) and general politicians-bashing. Then we get really depressed/pissed off at how fucked up Italy is and change the subject before we start throwing things across the room. Every country has problems and we're well aware of it, but it looks like the situation here keeps getting worse and there's nothing we can do. And most people don't even care, which is why we get so angry.

I watched "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" in school the first time and could hardly understand a word, it was in German with no undertitles and we had been studying German for less than two years. A couple of years ago I bought the DVD and read the book and yes, it is disturbing, the people involved were just children.

And no, you're not weird at all. ;)

Mh, that's another thing about the friend I met yesterday - mostly, he's pessimistic about things I'm optimistic about and the other way around. That, indeed, is a good basis for conversation, because we never allow one another to get too depressed.
He wrote me an sms this morning: "enjoyed our talk yesterday, always good to get so much input from you." Yeah, same here. XD

My friends and I usually agree on what we perceive as a problem, which is pretty much everything, really: the school system, justice, taxes, immigration, corruption, health care system etc. But we rarely agree on possible solutions: I'm usually the most pessimistic of the bunch, saying we're doomed and will end up like Argentina one day, someone's more idealistic, someone more "revolutionary". There's even someone who once said "Bring on the army!" Uhm, no, thanks. But it's nice to have so many different points of view.

Yep. It's boring if everyone has the same opinion. It took me a loong time to realize that, though. And I'm still a Klugscheißer, of course.

(Hrmpf. Didn't I want to stop that habit of throwing random German words into my English sentences?!)
