Cruelty is one of the two Divinities born from the Forgiving Angel, and was wrought from her death by Life. Cruelty, Kindness's twin, was given to Knowledge and Inspiration to rear, but he learned that it is Knowledge and Inspiration that give man the ability to harm others, and so bequeaths these gifts as well to give his followers a capacity for inflicting pain that surpasses others. Cruelty allows man's darker nature to be exposed; an unpleasant, but necessary function. Cruelty is dispassionate, but tenacious, and has no qualms suffering to cause harm.
Though most followers choose to use physical harm to damage their opponents, the most clever find that the mind is a joy to bring to rack and ruin. Unlike their Divinity, many gleefully, or at least with enjoyment, inflict their talents of sorrow and despair upon mortal beings. Unchecked, however, these followers will go too far and find themselves lost in a state of madness, infused through and through with malevolence, destroying all they touch. Those gifted by Cruelty and Kindness align with either Chaos or Order, as they choose, as their Divinities care not.
