So my dad's in the hospital. I just got off the phone with my mom, who's been at the hospital with him since 4pm. He went into liver failure

So sorry to hear about your dad. Sounds like he's still drinking. Unfortunately, if he needs the transplant they will probably defer him until he can prove he can stay sober. Most centers won't list active alcoholics.

Hopefully, they can stabilize him and he can get the drinking under control if they think he'll need a transplant (which it sounds like he will if he's got jaundice and clotting problems already).

my uncle has been in the hospital too, for months for a liver problem caused by his drinking. he also needs a transplant and has been waiting for one :(

i had no idea that your dad was an alcoholic, and for so long too :S i know you're probably not very open about it, but if you ever want to vent either by writing or talking about it... well we're here for you.
