Life was actually good. It hit Ford sometimes, and every time he was just as surprised. Life wasn't perfect. It had its dark times. Its griefs. But it was... good

She still hated him a lot of the time they didnt agree on everything- much less actually - and she was usually ti stubborn to know when to give up. But it was good and she was happy a lot of the time. She never felt as frantic anymore and even Francis didnt bother her as much. She hated ti admit it, but it was all Ford's fault.
It was late and Darcy was laying in his bed wearing only a bra and panties because it was warm out. She idly played with her hair and when the call came in and she didn't think anythin if it until he got up and left the room. She sat up and furrowed her brow, wondering what could possibly require him to leave the room. He did return and he looked almost confused. The news left her feeling the same.
"What do you mean active duty?" she knew what it meant. She knew enough to understand. She didn't want to believe that's what he had gotten a call about.
"It means I'm going to go away for a while." She knew what it meant. She knew what he'd been doing before he was assigned to teach her. She didn't know the details of it, but she knew he'd killed people in the line of duty. That that's what he'd been doing.
He set the phone down and rubbed a hand over his face. "Hopefully it won't take more than a couple of days, but a week is probably more realistic." That they were calling him in, a man who had been lifted from his job as a hunter because they didn't know if they could depend on him anymore? That suggested that whomever it was they wanted taken out was a big deal. "I'll know more when I've read the info. I'll be getting that later tonight."
he moved to sit on the edge of the bed. Wondered what she was thinking about all this.
She knew what he meant. She hated that she knew. Dammit, why did she think he could be different for her? He was always going to be a killer. She knew that and she fell anyway. Darcy sat still where she was as he sat on the end of the bed. She tried not to think about what hebwoukd be doing but what she did see was what may happen to him.
Darcy decided to finally move, scooting to the end of the bed and sitting behind him with her legs on either side of him, her arms aroun his shoulders and her cheek to the back of his shoulder. She didn't say anything because if she did, she would blurt out everything she hated about him and what he did because it meant he was putting himself in danger. She wouldn't cry, she told herself. She lied to herself.
He had ade his own adjustments to the heat of thsi summer night, and was for the moment shirtless. He felt her warm cheek against his back. And soon he felt the wetness of her tears. "Hey, I'm coming back, you know." he said. "Whatever it is, I've no doubt dealt with worse already." While that might be true, he had gotten hurt by it. And, he'd lived a relatively peaceful life this past year. Thinking about it, he was no doubt out of practice.
Still, he'd been doing this for nearly twenty years. It wasn't like he'd forget.
He moved around to wipe away her tears. He didn't want her to be crying now. Not when he hadn't even gone yet.
