In Our Bedroom After The War #1 Kira Izuru woke up the day after the war finished. The last thing he remembered was being cut down by Aizen. He tried to sit up in bed but was swiftly pushed back down by a member of the fourth division who had been attending to him. Once they left he ran his hand over his stomach to find no trace of the injury left by Aizen, not even a pale scar. After talking to Unohana-Taicho he was let out later that day, with a warning not to do anything strenuous. When Izuru returned to the 3rd Division barracks he was greeted enthusiastically by the members who he met on his way to the office but he walked past them giving each a polite nod and a few sparse words.
Once he got to the office he had shared with Ichimaru-Taicho, was when he finally broke down. He had spent the past couple of months trying to stay strong, avoiding talking about Ichimaru-Taicho and carrying on with the paperwork . But now once the war was over he didn’t need to be anymore.
He cried for his Captain.
For Hinamori-chan.
For Matsumoto.
For Hisagi-Senpai.
Kira ran his hand over his face and took a deep breath. There was no need for him to cry, everyone was alright. Well, except his Captain. He still remembered the moment when he heard from Matsumoto - the heart-renching pain upon hearing what had happened to his captain, that he had been killed. But he needed to stay strong for her. Matsumoto had been closest to Gin and she needed him to be strong enough for the both of them.
He jumped when he felt a cold hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, Kira, you ok?” Hisagi asked him, frowning slightly. “I knocked a couple of times and you didn’t answer.”
Kira ran his hand over his eyes, “Yeah, sorry. I didn’t hear you.”
Hisagi nodded, “No problem. I didn’t think you’d be allowed out of the fourth, I mean it’s only been a couple of days, since you know...” he trailed off.
Kira subconsciously wrapped his arms around his stomach, “It's fine now, no need to worry.”
“Oh good.” Hisagi sighed closing his eyes, “Now come here.” He said offering a hand to Kira, which Kira accept. Hisagi pulled Kira towards him and hugged him tightly.
Kira clutched the front of Hisagi’s robes, rested his head on Hisagi’s shoulder and let out the breath he’d been holding in. They stayed like that for a few minutes, with Hisagi running long fingers through Kira’s hair and Kira pressed up against him. Kira relaxed against Hisagi’s chest, savouring the warmth that came from being held by him. He had never felt like this when his Captain had hugged him - it always felt like being choked by a pair of clammy hands and even after Ichimaru was gone he could still feel it.
“Mmmm, ‘Zuru, I missed this.” Shūhei said, voice muffled by Kira’s hair. He lifted his head up and pressed a soft kiss to Kira’s forehead, his nose and then lips. Kira and Hisagi had been out on a couple of dates before the ryoka infiltrated Soul Society, but it was only after their Captains had left did they really embark on a more serious relationship.
Kira sighed against Hisagi’s lip’s, deepening the kiss. When they broke apart Kira ran his hand down the three parallel scars on Hisagi’s cheek, before cupping his face with his palm. Kira smiled as Hisagi closed his eyes and rubbed his cheek against Kira’s palm.
“Yeah, Shū, so did I.” Kira said, pulling Hisagi over to the sofa in the office and wrapped his arms around him once they had sat down. He ran his finger over the ‘69’ tattooed on his face before kissing it lightly. “So I did.” He murmured before claiming Shūhei lips in another kiss.
