I loved the opening ceremony for the olympics, It was really spectacular, I cant wait to go to China.

I never watch the sport but I love that its there; Its positivity is amazing, I hope China carry on the message of harmony and peace to their policies.

I have to say, cynically, that I'm not holding my breath. :/

As China continues to grow into the world markets it's going to be forced to take protests like the Tibet stuff much more seriously - look how careful they've been since the Hong Kong handover. The aim of the Party when I was still studying current affairs was for 'Capitalism without Democracy'. When they were being comparatively isolationist they could literally not give a shit what anyone thought about the occupation of Tibet. I think things will change for the better.

I agree but I doubt very quickly, China is still very insular with this strange air of being better than everyone else but still being so influenced and wanting to impress the West. Several reputable sources have said today in the news about it that humane rights seem to be getting worse again.

But then again its just the rise and fall of conservitism and liberalism like anywhere else.
