By 'cult of awesome', I mean the trend in modern media towards doing things that are really fucking awesome for the sake of doing them, and showing no shame enjoying them. Well, there is that, but surely God of War isn't a bad game? It's OTT to be sure - but not 'bad' in the same sense as Kung Fu Hustle. Or maybe I'm just missing the point. XD

I used a lot of 'or's there for a reason. God of War is deeply OTT, to the point it can easily sound silly. It's still a good game, but jesus, try explaining it to a random co-worker.

I mean it ends with you beating Ares to death with a bridge. For serious.

Almost certainly but Disney did just gain a whole bunch new Intellectual Property, which could be used for interesting effect.

And I swear Gurren Lagann is one of the most Orky things I have ever seen outside of 40K.
