the monotony of the 9 to 5, or 10 to 6, i guess, is really starting to get to me. honestly i really can not wait until spring comes. there's no way it can come too fast. i'm tired of riding on top of chunks of brown ice and through puddles of cold sludge that always manages to splash right into my right eye

criminology/sociology are the most fascinating things in the world to me. i just finished watching a special on charles manson. i wish i had gone to college and majored in that so i could become a detective. i think it's a great college paper idea.

yeah. i mean the whole subject of poverty as the cause of crime is what i was looking at so like marxist stuff too i guess, but yeah, all that is really interesting. and i think that the native american movement is out there, i just think its pretty censored and also generally looked down upon a lot because of AIM's history, and because they're pretty anti-pretty much every last principle that we stand for today.

i like it all in general, but yes i prefer crime related things. poverty's effect on crime is definately interesting. and yes, i suppose i agree with your american indian comments.

i think your essay topics sounds great and incorporating your experiences and observations of social stratification etc would really impact your essay as well.sociology is a field that is really growing. i took SOC 101 my freshman year and it was really interesting. i found it much more interesting the psychology (its sister field).

well, i was just thinking maybe it was too liberal/radical a stance that i have, and i don't really know how to show that i do have strong opinions and i'm a strong independent thinker without offending them, making them think "oh maybe we don't want a kid like this in our college" or whatever. also maybe that it was a naiive or ignorant or extremely obvious and stupid subject for me to be writing about. i don't know, sometimes i just don't know where i am in terms of everyone else, i mean, maybe this issue is just so completely obvious in everyone else's minds, and that's really what i want to know too, i guess. i guess that's just a common thought, to doubt yourself, especially when it comes to writing college entrance personal statements and whatnot. but yeah, thanks for the encouragement A LOT, and as far as psycology vs. sociology, i find most psych stuff to be pretty much stuff i've already thought about in depth, so it sometimes bores me hearing the same conclusions repeated. i really can't get enough of philosopy, as long

can't get enough of philosophy? then be a philosophy major like me (i am doubling in poltical science too)! i understand your worries in regard to how scholarship committees may react to views which may be a little out of the box.i have noticed that the people judging scholarship essays are a bit more conservative than the professors in the field you are looking into.if you feel that your ideas a very radical then try and keep your writing as clear as possible to show that your ideas are not purely driven by emotions but also by what you have read and looked into.

a little self doubt is a completey normal feeling, just don't let it
keep you from your goals.

and WHAT?! you're political science/philosopy major. its funny cause those are the only two things i've been seriously considering. well, and just humanities i guess so i can just learn lots of general stuff cause i like teaching myself, so that would be good. but yeah, those are the two majors i'd list for all my applications last year. oh, ps. i got into colleges i just procrastinated way too long and didn't get any scholarships or didn't plan on how i could pay for them so i figured maybe i should not go this year so i could get my stuff together. i realized i when i said applications last year that it sounded kind of wierd. also, aren't personal statements supposed to be more about yourself than what you know? i am so confused really, i don't know how it should be done at all, i hated english senior year, cause my teacher was a moron so i didn't pay attention and i guess she probably taught (or tried to at least) what was and wasn't important with these.
